As many other PF knives, this one comes in a black, textured sealed box tucked inside a slipcover featuring a die-cut brand name. It isn’t a luxury design, but the packaging is certainly decent, and it looks good enough from a standpoint of gift as well.
Kit is also the same and includes:

- Several spare screws
The moment I laid eyes on this knife, an internal siren started blaring: “I want it, I want it, buybuybuy!” I knew right then that this blade simply had to end up in my pocket. You have to admit, the design is truly unique - it stands out from all the other PF knives I’ve reviewed. To be fair, the manufacturer does offer a few other models with similarly unconventional designs.
As you can see, the handle is styled to resemble a bird’s wing, which is reflected in the model’s name “Nightingale”.
It comes in several color options; the purple version caught my eye the most.
As it turns out, I wasn’t the only one who liked it. I made the mistake of opening the parcel when wife was near, and she immediately issued an ultimatum: the knife was now hers. Since I believe it’s a great thing for a woman to carry a knife and a flashlight, and up to that point, she only had the flashlight, I decided to part with PFE06 and let her own it.
I’m sharing this story to show you that this knife may be an excellent gift for your girlfriend or wife. She might not be interested in a traditional, standard-looking knife, but this one, with its compact size and distinctive, eye-catching appearance is very likely to be right up her alley. So here is her set now

As you can see, the blade length is better suited for incidental everyday tasks: opening a package or cutting through some packing twine. Some knives might give you a “bonus” when it comes to the number of smartphones you bring home from an evening stroll; this one, however, is simply a pleasant object - nice to look at and comfortable to hold, that will help you with occasional, minor chores. It’s not a full-sized tool that you’d take along to a construction site, or on a hunting or fishing trip.
The handle scales are made of G10, which is to be expected. The plastic itself is white and merely painted on the surface. Thanks to a multitude of protrusions and a textured finish, the grip is exceptionally secure.
I would also like to highlight the excellent pocket clip. It looks remarkably good and feels comfortable in the hand. There is a pattern visible at the tip of the clip. It’s a bit strange that the manufacturer didn’t choose to use their own logo instead.
However, there is a logo on the metal cap of the pivot pin that holds the blade in place.

As for the thumb hole opening mechanism, the speed at which the “Nightingale” opens blade is not impressive when compared to the lightning-fast deployment you get from a flipper or a thumb stud. That’s why it was so easy for me to pass this knife on to my wife; I had already spent so much time playing with other Petrified Fish knives, constantly opening and closing the blades, I simply couldn’t stop doing it. The crisp “click” of the blade locking into place is genuinely addictive, much like a fidget toy.
Regardless of that, the blade’s movement is just as smooth and fluid as it is on all the manufacturer’s other models. There is absolutely no play in any position. The blade is perfectly centered and holds its position flawlessly.
The blade is made of 14C28N steel with a hardness of 59–61 HRC. It features a satin finish, which I really like. The sharpness is perfect out of the box. Petrified Fish PFE06 easily shaves hair, cuts paper, and passes the overripe tomato test, slicing through it`s skin without applying any pressure at all.
Maintaining the knife is easy; you can disassemble the handle without any effort. Once taken apart, you will see a liner lock as the blade-locking mechanism, while a pair of ceramic ball bearings ensures smooth blade deployment.
OVERALL
PF produces a variety of knives tailored to different needs. Some of these knives prioritize blade length over aesthetics, while others take the opposite approach. In the latter case, where the knife is intended as part of an EDC kit, compactness and pocket-friendliness become the primary concerns. Since appearance also plays a significant role in an EDC setup, PFE 06 features a striking design stylized to resemble a bird’s wing.
I should mention that my wife really liked this knife, so it’s definitely an option to consider as a gift for a woman. Though it’s not just a “oooohhh, such acute trinket!”, it is not a super-sweet design that would look stupid in man`s pocket.
Given knife`s size, this isn’t a tool meant for heavy-duty tasks. Think of it like a flashlight powered by a 14500 battery. Perfect for a walk or lighting up a small room, but not for demanding intensive use. Guys, “Nightingale” is like Wurkkos TS10 for me . So, the blade length here is sufficient for occasional, light-duty work.
In short, Petrified Fish PFE06 is an affordable knife with an appealing design and, as in case of all other manufacturer’s knives i`ve got, excellent build quality and a sharp edge right out of the box.
