Most (T8 can be only configured with SFT leds I think) convoys T series can be ordered with 5700K tint but they lack:
Good moonlight
Battery level indicator for NIMH mode
Robust configurable thermal step down.
Less efficient driver when loaded with NIMH - 60-70% vs 85%
For 5000K we have skillhunt M150 and EC150. (from “mainstream” vendors that provide quite robust choice)
It is rated for 14 cd/lm which is on par with M150 F35R 16 cd/lm.
T6 with nichia 519a and OP reflector I think around 20-25 cd/lm.
If they select an optic which produces 5-10 cd/lm it would be a great sweat spot for EDC. In my experience M150 F35R is too throowy for ranges I use it but I could argue that 2cd/lm (D3AA nichia 519A domed) is also not the best from efficiency standpoint which is important in 14500 since you want as less lumens as possible to get lux you need to preserve battery.
Not sure about that since I think it at least 6 cd/lm even with stock optics. It definitely a tad thrower compared to KR1AA SFT70 which is 5 cd/lm
Eneloops are a little weird though, since they spend about 70% or 80% of each discharge in the 1.20V to 1.30V range… which in Anduril is all cyan color. So it could really use some more precise color thresholds.
But if I set the thresholds for Eneloop, then it’ll be weird for cells with a more linear discharge curve.
Not sure what exactly to do with it, but I’m messing with that part of the code at the moment so hopefully I can make it work better.
One idea that I have is to shift boundaries 0.05V and add some non-linearity like:
Pink - 1.35 - 1.55
Blue - 1.25 - 1.35
Teal - 1.20 - 1.25 (1.25 kinda located in the middle of discharge curve for NIMH so it is a great boundary point)
Green - 1.15-1.20
Yellow - 1.10-1.15
That should more or less work with both alkaline and nimh with the downside of harder memorization of boundaries.
Given that eneloop are more forgiving to deep dicharge you do not need to be as precise compared to li-ion. So having 3 effective ranges - Blue, Teal, Green should be good enough if you ask me.
Has anyone swapped B35AM into a KR1AA? I guess there aren’t too many reasons to do it, unless you strongly prefer a neutral tint, because as far as I’m aware Hank’s KR1AA emitter options are on either end of BBL.
I’m mostly just wondering if it plays nice with the optic. I don’t think only lowering ceiling would get the current draw where you want it, right? Doesn’t a single B35 like 2.2-2.4A?
I have the SFT-70 3000K in my silver KR1AA and like it. I wish there was a neutrally tinted high CRI 4000K version though.
I did not know there was a neutral version of FL5009R available, thanks.
I’ve just got some type of idea that I want B35AM in a bunch of lights. I’m planning on getting a few with my next convoy order. I think both of my 2700K B35s are damaged. One is a bit burnt, the other has a piece missing from the white edge. I may try it out though.
I see that one can order from Jackson B35AM in the KR3 along with other various 5050 LEDs. Some of the options look interesting.
I do like the rosy 4200K FL5009R/NTG50, but for me lately it’s almost becoming too pink during the daylight.
I can do any configuration you like. I have all the bronze and black PVD hardware too, but you probably don’t want that with the polished silver. Shoot me a DM if you’d like to order one.
No, I would have to actually make one to take measurements. I am stocking KR1AAs to sell with B35AM and the new CRI 95 SFT-70, but I can just as easily use 719A.
SFT-70 (SFT-70X-W High CRI) is available in CRI 95 at 2700K, 3000K, and 4000K, with really nice neutral to mildly rosy tint. It was previously only available in high CRI at 3000K. Even the new 3000K is an improvement since what KD is stocking is two flux bins higher.
