Are the exposure and such values locked? Is the KR1AA with the st70 really that much brighter than the triple dedomed 519A?
Based on the sky brightness, I’m inclined to believe the throw is more similar than it appears to be…
In the Reddit thread the owner confirms that the KR1AA is less floody than the D3AA. I’m not expecting a thrower but if it has a tighter beam than a D3AA 519 de-domed I’m seriously tempted.
Do we know if the 3000k SFT70 is a high CRI variant? I’m assuming that Hank and Jackson wouldn’t offer anything other than that, but I could be wrong…
Based on the one I have in my DA1K that I bought from Hank, yes it is and it is beautiful.
I have one in a D1K. Very much agree. Wonderful emitter. Great colours, magic tint.
I received mine with a FFL5009R in 2700k. It’s really got a nice smooth floody beam with decent throw even with the warm tint I prefer. The optic is nice. It looks like it could be from Ledil
WB locked 5000k
Looks different enough from the D3AA to buy at least one! Thanks for posting this.
Where are you guys finding these available already?
Congrats and thanks for the excellent info!
The beam color comparison, the R9 of 81, and the DUV of -0.0061 are very much to my liking.
I especially appreciate that you have a much more accurate spectrometer than Jacksons Opple 4:
for people who may be interested, the KR1AA V1 is in stock on Jacksons site now..
KR1AA V2 is expected on Hanks site (thats just a D3AA link you will need to wait for updates for the actual Hank KR1AA link )around end of December
V1 has electronic lock out only (Jackson offers FFL LEDs that Hank does not). Jackson ships from Hawaii, so the lights arrive in USA pretty fast. Jackson does impeccable work, and offers tons of info and support.
V2 adds physical lock out (and Hank tends to charge about $20 less). Hank ships from China.. it takes about 10-20 days to arrive in USA.
Hank offers all the same LEDs Jackson does except the FFL.. Hanks NTG LEDs are made in the same Chinese factory and they are essentially the same as FFL, but FFL and NTG vary in tint, unpredictably.. FFL in some cases offer extremely rosy tint.
Jackson uses an Opple 4, which is not accurate for DUV, but he posts those measurements on his site, to give a comparative but not numerically accurate reference.
as an example, the NTG DUV from Opple 4 is -0.0130 but I have seen a more accurate spectrometer report that as DUV -0.0086.. Take that with a grain of variation.. I cant guarantee what your FFL or NTG LED will look like other than it will not have Green Tint (above DUV)
I dont have info on Tint for the other LED options.. some are also not High CRI.. you can ask Jackson for more details.. (dont ask me, Ive posted all I know) ;-)… you can look up all the LEDs available on Jacksons site.
Jackson is great to deal with and he does do great work. Ships super fast. May be a bit slower than usual due to the KR1AA dropping but still fast.
I have been on a real NTG and FFL emitter kick lately and think they are great in the warmer tints below 4k. My calibrated eye balls find them pleasing enough.
Your all black Hank collection is awesome! I wish I would have done that with all mine. Guess I better start over ![]()
I’m sad the raw aluminum is not available from Jackson, not interested in the other finishes.
And I’m guessing a magnetic tailcap isn’t going to be an option. I use it constantly on the D3AA… I might have to be done with tailcap switches, even though I otherwise prefer them.
Jackson has said Hank is going to have the magnetic tail cap in V2.
I’m in!!! Now to just have patience…
Thinking I’ll wait for the brown version to be back in stock and go with the opposite color combination with brown/black pieces than I did here. Should contrast nicely!
“Great photos thanks. Do you know if the exposure & iso are locked as well? Does the KR1AA seem that much brighter in person?”

“I did lock them to what seemed accurate to my eye. I would say there pretty similar in brightness its mostly a difference of focus. I was taking the pictures right after sun set so it was slightly darker out when I took the pictures with the d3aa.”
