Laser engraving/etching Convoy S2+

This is not a marketing post, but I do hope to sell them one day.

I have been fooling around with and working on the notion of creating laser engraved lights.

I sell (Read: have a bunch of) Convoys.
The S2+ is also one of my top 10 fav lights.

Anyway I have been out sourcing some test work and I just want to share the results thus far.

It is all far from perfect, trying to hone it in.
Personally I think its awesome.
Id like community feedback as well.

Custom Convoy S2+

2 Thanks

What laser engraver did you use for this?

Im not a fan of anything “fun” so doesn’t appeal to me .

I can see how (for right price) it might be popular. Could it also work on those Mao coatings?

If you anodised the light again, would the ano only stick to the etched zones and not to the original ano? Could be a neat way to get multiple colours.

There was a guy in the UK some time ago who did ceracoated convoy lights which looked quite unique. He closed his shop due to lack of demand for flashlight parts in the UK I think… went by name of something-tronix… Perhaps something else will remember full name.

Might be worth avoiding horizontal lines across the threaded parts to account for different mods, it would be a shame if the design didn’t line up after someone put a thicker/thiner lens in etc.

I’m interested in knowing the type of laser used, too.

Is the anno removed or just burned - kind of like a “baked” light? Does it smell bad?

Looks pretty neat. Would it add much to the cost?

Im not sure its not mine. I do know its a “Co2 laser”

I believe it it just vaporizing the color and not doing anything to the actual ano.

It seems to be nothing more that the Convoy logo already on the lights

If the light was anoned again I have no idea…I would sooner just use different color hosts. This idea and potential execution is already a lot.

Once staged and honed it could become a repeatable process with that said I think I might do some designs over and over, but also do some limited edition runs.

I was told it smoked…and that he “did not go sniff the smoke” lol

It feels good in the hand, you can not feel the difference in laser and non-lasered areas

Just like the Convyo S2+ logo on the body of the light.

Im really feeling it.

Eventually I could probably do custom jobs as well. baby steps… just excited at the possibilities.

I mean does the light smell afterwards. I have a less powerful laser and have toyed around with burning designs on powder-coated stainless. The pieces stink for days (weeks?) afterwards. I hear putting them in baking soda afterwards can help remove the funk.

ahhhh. no no no. no smell at all. Even better that I’m not the guy doing it. He maybe nose blind to it. Its gets handed to me finished and 0 smell
…thank goodness! I didnt know that was potentially a thing
