Hi all,
I have an inexpensive Coast Polysteel 250 flashlight that I keep in my car. Its nothing fancy, but it seems quite durable and has a twist head that provides both flood and spot beam patterns (I’m learning this may make it a “zoomie” in BLF lingo?) so it seems to be a great light to keep in trunks and gloveboxes.
Well, I pulled it out today to check the batteries, and noticed something odd. The dome on the emitter is partially blackened, like it has been melted or burned. I don’t think the light was like this when I first purchased it last year, but I also haven’t paid super close attention to what the emitter looked like. I have only used this light a few times with a grand total of maybe 4 hours of runtime at most. I think I may have noticed a flicker or two in the beam the last time I used it, but that could be a mind game now that I’m thinking about it.
Anyone seen anything like this? Does it indicate a hazard? I filed a warranty claim and will see what comes of it. However, I’m also curios what the BLF folks think and am assuming I’ll learn something new as I already have several times in my short time as a member.
Thanks for any input!
