I just stumbled upon this on BG. It is similar to a light strip except it looks like a thin flexible neon tube and is rather cheap - 20 meter for $15. Standard 12V power supply.
Apparently it can be bent and cut to any length. How you connect the parts together i don’t know…
I can think of many uses…
Did anyone try this out?
It’s EL (electro luminescent) wire. You must connect it to an EL driver aka inverter. 2xAA pocket inverter
The wire itself actually runs on 90-120v AC 1000-2000Hz.
Ihave some meters of this stuff laying around.
It’s not bright - not for lighting anything, you just see that thing lit up - perfect to set a course (Search Google pictures for “EL suit”)
Thanks for the info. I completely misunderstood what it is. No LED in fact, but still very cool.
Plenty of video on YT searching for “EL strip light”.
Inspiring!
It is just about right when it comes to putting enough light in the bed of the truck to see without ruining your night vision.
The strips didn’t stick as well as I would have liked and I had to add double faced foam adhesive. I prepped the surface well with a good cleaning of isopropyl alcohol.
Maybe it was the surface I was sticking them to. I have a sprayed in LineX bed liner and there is some up under the rails.
Are these led strips or EL ‘tubes’ or wires - ’cause the former often comes with an adhesive side but not the latter i believe?
I just ordered two five meter length in white and light green with a portable power supply each.
I’ll let you know when i find some use for them…
… i’m curious too. According to L4M4 above comment it does not produce much light, less then a strip i guess.
I’ll sure put them to use at my next party - along with lighted ice cubes, lasers and other fun gadgets i come across while looking for flashlights!
BTW: are those ’wires” waterproof?
They are waterproof and the bed is covered with a tonneau cover as well.
They put out 28W each and I end up using three strips. I ordered two but ended up with three so I put it across the front. Two provides plenty of light.
