These 21.8mm Ledil optics are hard to find, and so it seem, hard to fit. I was hoping the 1.8mm difference wouldn't make a lot of difference, given the fact that there is usually a bit of side to side play with the Carlco 20mm triples.
I was wrong. It won't fit into any of the Convoy S series hosts. I was hoping it would. Where the Carlco has a flat top, the Ledil has a raised dome that should fit neatly through the opening in the bezel. The extra hight of the dome makes it taller too, but should be the same hight after the dome is fitted through the bezel.
Outer edges 21.8mm
raised dome 20mm
Does anyone know of a host for me to try? One where a 20mm Carlco has a little too much side to side play. Maybe something with a 22mm lens diameter.
This may be the perfect triple optic for mini mag builders, as the Carlco triple has too much play and hard to center.
Here is a picture of a 35mm Ledil optic with the raised dome. Note how it protrudes nicely through the bezel
There is always room for another optic. I still need check the beam, but this optic has larger, deeper reflectors. I know I’ll hear feedback from members that tried Carlcos in other hosts that had 1mm 2mm sloppy side play that made shims necessary to keep it centered…ie: MiniMags.
These are really hard to get hold of. I got mine from Luxeon Star , but they are all gone. You have to keep checking for restock, and grab them quick because they sell out real fast.
I just tested one on a mini mag. I needed to run a dremel with a sanding drum around the inside of the bezel a wee bit to allow the dome to poke up through it, but it looks real nice.

In fact ledil has much less throw.
I can’t understand any problems with triple optics centring, optics sits on pcb, which is soldered to pill or fits well 20mm pcb host place.
This is much easier that centring any single optics.
Yes, Carlcos are very nice, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be trying out, and testing new things. XML were very good, but that didn’t stop me from trying out XML2.
Really, it was actual in 10-11 y.y.
When carclo become available, everyone who wanted have understand that ledil is worth. It simply has less effincy than carclo.
Now you are presenting it like smth new, rare…
All I’m saying kiriba-ru is, it’s different. I’ve built dozens of Carlco triples, and I want to check these out. If it’s floodier than a Carlco, I don’t mind, sometimes I want a floodier light. I just built several XPE2 triple Carlcos, and with the same optic, they all look the same. I plan to build another XPE2 using this Ledil, so if it has a completely different beam type, that’s fine. It’s not like I only have a handful of flashlights that need specific beam types, I have lots, so variations cane be a nice change. I don’t like building the same light over and over again.
I think I started this thread asking about flashlights that took a 22mm lens.
I was born in Russia. It is not a good idea to try everything here .
Carclo has different triples. Problem with Ledil Satu in low effincy.
There is big various of different Ledil optics. Newer single variant are very useful. Some interesting singles are also made by Ledlink. And also there is unique ultra-narrow optics from Kathod.
I just wanted to say that as I think you`ve made not the best choise for trying.
Nah, that’s okay. Your probably right, but theyre good to have on hand for those odd sized lights. I already know that they don’t really have a hotspot, and the beam is more diffused, but sometimes I use the medium and wide angle frosted carlcos because that’s the kind of beam I,m looking for. For everyday use, I’ve been carrying small 14500 and 18350 DD triples. Mostly for looking for things that have rolled under desks or car seats and reading labels in dark trailers. A bright hotspot is not always advantageous for these things.
I might end up deciding they suck, but I have them, so I’ll try them out.
I recently purchased a 35mm Ledil quad optic by mistake. I meant to get the 35mm Ledil Cute. It was a shallower optic than the cute, but had the same type of domed top as this one. I had to do a lot of extra work building up the heatsink to fit, but in the end, the beam was fabulous. I almost didn’t use it.
PS: I have six X6 hosts that are waiting for heatsinks.
