Vibram FiveFingers, other minimalist shoes, flip flops, and whatever trainers, boots, and just other random shoes as necessary where available and reasonably priced without caring much about brand. A few pairs of heels but rarely have somewhere nice enough to go to wear them. Fluffy slippers at home because my feet get cold easily and react badly to cold (never been quite the same since getting frostbite one time).
Will also just not wear shoes if the weather is good, the location is ok enough and I’m not risking getting denied entry somewhere (a lot of places in the US seem to require shoes where they didn’t care in the UK, I can’t even get on a bus without them here where in the UK I would drink in pubs without necessarily feeling I had to bring shoes… (even if most of the ones I frequented, I still did due to the floor being filthy)
I don’t really cheap out on insoles. EasyFeet make some great insoles. My wife and I both use them. Make sure to get ones in your weight range. They got some pretty high arch support insoles. Worth the money. Also be aware insoles do wear out. They aren’t a one time purchase. I have them in my Irsh Setter work boots. I walk about 8 miles a day total, work and off work. I have to replace them, or any insole really about every 8 months to a year. Now if you don’t use them as much as that then they would probably last you quite a bit longer.
If you got the bucks check out the Good Feet Store. High dollar but, custom fit for you and your needs. If you have one in your area. They have a store locator on their website.
I don’t mess around when it comes to my feet. I have to be on them 16 or so hours a day so I don’t attempt to use anything or do anything that would lame me up. I move around a lot and burn a lot of calories a day. I’m 6’1" and a mean 220lbs. I keep my blood pressure in check with weight control and being active. I don’t exercise but my daily responsibilities keep me moving. I watch what I eat but I am not a dieter, I don’t have any diabetes issues or reasons to keep track of it.
Please, your feet will thank you for proper insoles and it will get you up and about more often because your feet are feeling better.
Username checks out.
Indeed.
@toddcshoe
Now I don’t feel so bad about how expensive my insoles are.
They are quite nice, and I couldn’t find anything I thought was better (for less than about $50.)
I hope my insoles last longer than yours do, and I think they will, but if not, I’ll just get some more (and maybe look for ones that are more durable if that’s an issue.)
EDIT:
I actually have several spare insoles that I could use (if I could find them), but my other insoles don’t have very high arches, which is what I’m into right now.
Sorry you are in so much pain. Sounds like I have what you have. Are you unable to bend after having hip replacement or are you still waiting for a new hip. I wear slip on mocs and no socks most of the time. Lots of gummies.
I am scheduled to have a new hip in 26 days. It was supposed to have happened a few days after Christmas but… life, ya know?
My Mizuno Waverider 2.0’s are waiting patiently.
Good luck and let me know how the new hip works out for you. I’m trying to get my courage up to schedule the operation.
It’s a scary process, no doubt about it. I’ve been dealing with my hip for several years but after covid it got worse very fast! I figure if I can get it fixed and go 20-30 years with it NOT hurting all the time why keep dealing with it?
Having the doctor rip you a new one so hard you have to learn to walk again? Yeah. Not the greatest thing ever. It’s not easy being hip. Potentially worth it though, if it can improve life long-term at the expense of short-term difficulty.
Maybe we should all have a show-and-tell thread for our titanium body parts.
So after titanium flashlights, now titanium body parts are a thing? Can we get them in fancy colors as well?
I asked the surgeon if I could anodize it first, I was not encouraged by his response.
I did wind up with some colorful Titanium screws out of this one… long story. Lol
Hey TK? Will you please give me a holler, I have something I’d like your opinion/advice on.
Thank you.
Wait, what? gonna have to learn to walk?
This will be a robotic surgery, somehow minimally invasive. ( I know, right?) I am told I will be walking not long after I awake and will go home same day. How crazy is that?
Are they going in the front or back? One cuts less muscle but is harder to do. I’m not sure which is which.
I am pretty sure my surgeon uses an approach more to the side. There is a surgeon here that uses the frontal approach but I don’t know if he uses the robotic, like mine does. This procedure, using robotics, has far less issues with popping out the joint during the healing process as it is more accurate in the angles. Also less chance of having one leg longer than the other.
I was keen on asking for a steel plate to use as a holster through magnets but my nurse wife about killed me with her look. Might have to let that go.
The whole robocop thing is interesting though. Lol
25 days to figure it all out.
Anterior (front) approach is supposedly less invasive.
(unless my dang memory has flipped em)
Sorry. Caught myself talking a lot and not actually answering your question.
Pretty sure the Stryker Mako Robotics is what my surgeon is using.
They make it sound like a dream vacation. I’m wagering something gets lost in the translation.
