New here with a brand new Kel-Tec Ks7 bullpup pump 12 gauge.
It's going to be used for way off grid RV / home / bear / meth-head protection.
Looking to mount it on the M-Lok slots on the side of the handle. Pressure switch not required or even wanted, just an ergonomic button I can tap with my thumb.
Needs to be as low profile as possible dues to storage limitations in the RV.
50 yards is the max required distance, 30 and under is more likely.
The light is the first line of defense, so blindingly bright with strobe.
Most important, this style of gun is known for its epic amounts of recoil / shock and I'll be loading high brass buck and slug - so a light that doesn't fall apart under duress is key.
Prefer to be under $150 but will go a bit more if the quality is worth it
I was looking at this but am hesitant to pull the trigger, I've had bad luck with the majority of the Chinesium I've purchased in the past.
I don't have much experience with 'dedicated' Combat/Weapon lights/lighting systems, so I can't offer any individual lighting recommendations. However, following is a list of some of those manufacturers that I consider primarily dedicated to making Combat/Weapon lighting systems so you can checkout their websites.
ASP
Cloud Defensive
iProtec
MicroFire
Modlite Systems
TORQ (First-Light USA)
Powertec
Tough Light
Here are a few of those full-line manufacturers that also offer highly-regarded Weapon Lights.
Malkoff
Olight
Streamlight
Surefire
Others TBD
Since weapon lighting systems tend to be overbuilt relative to their more traditional counterparts, with features such as "potted electronics" to manage heavy recoil, they are usually much more expensive. So if you can provide the forum with $ budget limit, and any other relevant criteria to help narrow the choices, that will be helpful.
Non replaceable battery? Needs a proprietary charger to use?
Bet it won’t hold 1400Lm for very long if it can even be trusted to make that. Most all of the no name lights lie about actual output.
Nifty shape though.
All but 1 of the reviews are from “reviewers” who got the light for free.
On YouTube all the vids seem to be from the same guy.
Think spending a bit more for a known light might be a better choice for a way out in the wilds light.
All the Best,
Jeff
I really like the Streamlight TLR-1-HL. It’s fairly compact and bright. It can be set up with a pressure switch if you decide to go that route later, but the basic toggle switch is really good. Press one way for momentary, press the other for constant on. Double tap the momentary for strobe, and you can disable the strobe if you decide you don’t want it later. The light runs on CR123A primaries which may or may not work for you- they’re fine with me for me for a weapon light. The TLR series also has a whole lot of other models that have different features if you want.
Streamlight TLR-1-HL is tried and true. Put a rail adapter onto the M-LOK accessory. Mount the light on the opposite side of the receiver you place your cheek so you don’t glare out your night vision. Solofish comes from a country the masses can’t own guns so who checked it for recoil survival? Streamlight also uses a physical switch not an electronic one so no parasitic drain.
I have that exact light, but have not mounted to anything yet, still here’s my Amazonesq review. My shotgun only has a bottom pic rail so no go there, but it will likely go on a 556 or some other PCC. Just need to reinforce the exterior doors and hide the brace and dog first! However, I can say that it is brighter and has a bigger hotspot than my Convoy S2. The color temp on mine falls on the cool side compared to my other NW lights. The light strobe seems to be at a decently disorienting frequency and even the laser can strobe as well, though I’m not sure what use that would be. The construction is all metal and feels fairly solid, but I can’t make any guarantees against shotgun recoil. If you want low profile with high brightness and daytime visible green laser, this fits the bill well at similar dimensions as the S2. A typical tube style light mounted with rings might be more robust, but would also stick out more where this can fit flush to the handguard. The magnetic charging is actually pretty handy and most of my other mounted lights have something like it and some of the cables are interchangeable as well. It’s actually a pain to unscrew tail caps or open back flaps to replace batteries when mounted and traditional plug in charging ports are more prone to damage and moisture intrusion. The one notable thing I don’t like about this one is how the buttons activate the light modes. The left button controls the white light only and the right one is for the laser. I would’ve preferred a second button on both sides like my other lights for ease of use, but it’s not a show stopper. Sure you can subscribe to the buy once cry once philosophy with the name brands, but that’s not why many of us are here on a web forum with the word budget in its URL. If you have a prime membership, then it should be a fairly easy process to return or exchange if the KS7 truly tests the light’s mechanical limits.
I’ve got one of those 14” barrel “defender” type shotguns with one of those birds-heads/club/raptor idk-what-they’re-called type grips like a Mossberg shockwave. Not a Mossberg though it’s some cheaper knockoff. In 12 gauge pump. I just put a Picatinny rail adapter on it and rings for a scope, bought a $7 AAA flashlight with an integrated laser pointer and jammed it in there lol. Up top like a scope.
Ive never shot it like this. I’m too scared. It was just a joke at first, its not legal to use guns for self defense in Canada anyways, and it’s not legal to shoot them at night, so it’s technically not really legal to even put a flashlight on one because it suggests intent. I mean its legal to have but would look pretty bad in court if you ended up there for some reason. It’s a grey-ish area. So I wasn’t going to spend a bunch of money on one. But I kinda like it and now I really want to see it fired. I just don’t really want to go first lmao. I don’t think itll hold zero…
