Is there any particular light brand that you dont currently own but you can see yourself owning in the future? With this question, price is no object so feel free to dream.
I will start off.
I dont have any Surefire. They have always been too expensive and I never could justify. I would like to get one in the future.
Same goes for HDS Systems. At $300+ for an 18650 light, I cant justify it but I wish I had one.
Not a brand, but something based on a particular design. Although more simple, it would be a unicorn light right now. No onboard charging, 2 switch setup like the sofirn C8L (forward clicky tail switch). The C8G would be awesome with a more modern led for throw, and then with a different head design for a flooder.
HDS Rotary with 519a would be brilliant, I occasionally browse their website after forgetting the price then remember why I don’t own one when I see the price.
I’ve a P60 surefire host from Overready that’s been bored for 18650, it is extremely nice. Would be interested to try their rotary switch headlamp if it came with a good LED.
I’m pretty happy with the flashlight brands that I own.
If a flashlight brand is too expensive for me, I’m automatically not interested in it, and I don’t keep track of pricey flashlight brands.
At some point you have so many flashlights that you only buy models that you really intend to use. But there are so many interesting models that I’d like to add to the collection because they have something interesting or special, but also downsides that stop me from paying money for them.
I’ve been meaning to get an Acebeam, but every time there’s a sale they omit the options I want. For example, the P17 Defender went on sale in Sand but not in Grey or Black earlier this year.
Seems like their sales are only for items they are trying to clear out excess inventory on.
For me, likely a brand that hasn’t been born yet. I have way too many lights now, and from my perspective there really hasn’t been anything in existing lineups from brands I don’t own that makes me yearn. At one point I considered something from Int’l Outdoors, but just couldn’t see any paticular use case that wasn’t satisfied with lights I already had. That, and all the “Hank Wang” leg humping is a huge turn-off…no offense to Mr. Wang.
I don’t think I’ve ever thought that I want a light from a certain brand. I want certain lights. I want lights that have certain things my current lights don’t have. There isn’t a certain brand I want that I don’t have. Even something like a hanko I don’t really want. I mean ill take it if someone was offering but I’d just sell it.
My biggest issue with lights is when I own a light and they improve the emitter in the new model. So I am faced with the decision to buy it again or sell the old one or possibly keep both.
Todays emitters are so good… that flashlights I’d lusted after years ago are now no longer of interest.
My dream light was a McGizmo Haiku. Gorgeous design. Very decent UI. But oh so expensive. Don was very, very slow at upgrading emitters. He has finally introduced some decent high CRI emitters, but the price is such a put-off now.
But I still can’t forget Tain (Chang Tain?). I think he’s from somewhere in Asia. For over 15 years he has made some top quality titanium milled flashlights with an abundance of trit slots. You can go HERE to see a tribute thread. I love the Thud model. But oh so expensive. Can’t justify it.
