I just installed a Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAA battery in a flashlight. I droppped the batttery in as i always do and now it is stuck. I cannot access the other end to push it out nor can I drill it out as it contains pure lithium. I have tried to superglue a wooden dowel to it and that didnt work either. So any suggestions on how to remove it?
Edit: I had previously used Alkalines and Nimhs in it before and they fit fine.
The problem is anything that pierces the battery would allow the lithium to react with the air. I may try doing that in a tub full of mineral oil or something like that.
Leave it in the freezer for at least 24 hours, the cell and tube should both shrink then remove it and if it's still stuck heat the tube with a hair dryer. That should cause the tube to expand before the heat can penetrate enough to expand the cell again.
Wrap the flashlight in several layers of tape then grip it with vice grips or pliers. Then smack the vice grips smartly against a wooden 2x4 or something.
Scaru, see if you can rough up the back of the cell then JB weld the threaded end of a 4” bolt to the cell. If you have a vise, set the bolt in the vise so it moves freely but will not let the bolt head through. Give it a swift yank so the bolt is stopped. It should be enough to yank the cell free much like a dent puller works.
I just took it out of the freezer and it was to cold to touch, I then used a hair drier to heat it up until it was almost to hot to hold. I tried everything from banging it on a table to tying a piece of para cord to it and swinging it around. I think I may try sending it to energizer since they do have the warranty. Does anyone know what they will do since it is a light that I can no longer purchase?
