Looking for a HDTV to replace an replacement one I have since my nice one broke. It’s an old 32 inch. I’m looking for a 47-50+ HDTV. Internet/Browsing would a plus. Otherwise I’ll just get an android stick. Anyways my budget is 700 give or take 50 bucks. I would like it around 600 if possible. Currently I’m looking at the Walmart’s LG 47LM4600 & 47LS4500. It’s priced pretty aggressively for anything online or at any other stores. It’s for my dad so he really doesn’t care about the 120/240 hz issue. Just so long as it’s full 1080p @ 60 fps.
After really checking them all out, we went with the LG. We’ve had it about 6 months, and so far it’s excellent. No complaints whatever, and we still marvel at the resolution.
This one will also handle 3D, and uses passive glasses (if you rent or buy 3D movies). Quite a remarkable effect, but the novelty wears off after the first couple of movies. All in all, though, we’re very satisfied. I just checked; this one is a 55LW5600. Bought it from Future Shop.
there are some great deals on amazon and tiger direct for your budget and they usually offer much better prices than stores do
how do you feel about ordering a big ticket item like a tv online?
i myself bought a 50” samsung 1080p plasma for $1250 (retailed in best buy for 2200 at the time) from amazon and have had no problems since then
i also bought a 42” toshiba 1080p lcd for $400 on tiger direct in 2010 (retailed for $750 in target) from tiger direct on a black friday sale and have had no issues with it… it actually has a better picture than my plasma… go figure
I second purchasing from Costco if you have the ability. Find a friend with a membership if you have to
You get an extra year of warranty and you deal with THEIR customer service, not the manufacturer. I had a laptop battery go bad just before the two year mark and I had a replacement within a few days and no hassle. Also, if you buy with American Express (only credit card they accept) you get a third warranty year.
For more inexpensive TV’s you might as well just search for the best deal from a reputable store. I’m actually looking at the Insignia brand from Best Buy for a 42” LED LCD. I believe it’s manufactured by LG or Samsung. The picture is really good for the price (currently $430). Best Buy has a great customer service within their return window and if it hasn’t shown any problems in that time frame then you should be go for the long haul. Just get a Square Trade warranty if you’re concerned. The “46” version is currently $450, but I was only able to look at the 42” in the store.
I have 46” and 51” Samsung Plasma sets, both purchased from Tiger Direct. Both TVs are excellent though they’re located out of direct sunlight, I’ve heard a bright room can be a problem for Plasma.
I had a 50” Samsung for about 14 months, all I can say is be very carefull about the accessories you let your kids attach to their Wii remotes.
DO NOT, DO NOT Buy a LCD TV that is not a LED.
My pal owns a tv repair shop.
Years of red ink ended when LCD tv’s arrived with Flourescent Backlighting.
LED tv’s are not prone to regular failure of the backlight system.
So far. Plasma or LED. Plasma has imprpved tremendously.
I see your 47” up request, check this 46”
A newcomer to the US, TCL is a established name in Asain markets.
TCL and Hisense are both Chinese companies. I figure if I have to compromise at least I’ll buy from a USA/Japan/Korea TV company with manufacturing plants in China in hopes they’ll someday bring manufacturing back home I’m just not ready to completely give China the edge in manufacturing.
Vizio seems to have pretty good vision and their product is only getting better. It’s kind of strange to think of them as a USA-based tech company since they’re more of a value brand. I like what they’ve done with their new M-Series line coming out this year. After that they’ll have 4k sets out, but those won’t be relevant for a long time since there won’t be any programming.
I was just in my Costco store. They have this TV in the store for the online price. I also note that the TV will do 3D. $700 in store, but as usual with Costco, you pay sales tax on the full price ($800). No big deal for me.
The TV has 2 HDMI outlets. Three would be better. I have three, but only routinely use two. One constantly hooked up to a blu-ray player, and the other for the occasional laptop hookup.
When I bought plasma, there was concern about viewing angles, motion blur, and deeper blacks. At the time, plasma was the choice to avoid those problems. However, that was 4 years ago. I have not assessed the current state of LCD technology.
