Looking For a Color Accurate Flashlight

Hello all,

I am very interested in getting a Hank light for their customisablity, but I need help trying to choose a configuration that is appropriate for my use case.

I am a fiber splicer looking for a work light with a color accurate emitter that I can use for an extended period of time. I would like a floody flashlight that can fire light straight (and with the option of firing at a right angle, if possible) and has a magnetic base. Lumen output is not a huge priority, so it does not have to be particularly high.

I appreciate any suggestions that fit this description. I am also open to other/alternate features that I may not have considered. My budget can go up to $150, but I would like to keep it below $100.

Thank you for reading my post!

What comes into my mind is the FC40 Emitter in 5000K.
High CRI, DUV basically zero and more around 6000K
The best light I have ever seen, and I use it for my Aquarium because of that.

You can find some lights with it from Convoy.

Other than that, B35AM 5700K also delivers a very nice light

It’s nice to see you, SIDELI!

I’d also vote for the Nichia, if absolute accuracy is important. Note that the downside of this emitter is raw output, but you’ve said that this is acceptable.

It sounds like your use case is practical therefore I’d recommend a headlamp Vs flashlight format so you can work with both hands free.

I vaguely recall seeing discussion about different batches of the GT-FC40 having different tints but can’t find the thread/posts now.

I’d characterise most quality emitters nowadays as being suitable for identifying wiring colours, the Nichia 519a would likely be suitable too.

Only highly detailed/colour critical uses really require anything more special, perhaps art restoration or paint colour matching etc.

The best option is maybe a Nichia B35AN in 3000-3500K
If you need more intensity but still good color Nichia 519a

A cheap to see if you might like it would be to get the the

4000k Nichia 519a might be a good start. i have modded mine by swapping in 2700K led and one i like it a lot as a EDC
With the Magnetic base and USB-C charging its really usefully for working

( i now have like 3 of them)

Maybe a additional right angel flood light like

Available with b35am!

But also https://www.firefly-outdoor.com/en-de has some awesome high CRI low CCT LED options wit excellent colors

For me personalty something like wurkkos-fc11c should always be in the tool bag. its small and its cheap enough that you don’t have to worry and just keep using it.

Maybe consider a additional work light to illuminate the whole area that takes battery’s from your power tools?
or there are many good and cheap high power high CRI video lights amid at content creators.

I’ll second gravelmonkey’s headlight recommendation.

Consider the Skilhunt headlights w/ 519a emitters. A H04/519a is my go-to for most things color-critical. Skilhunt headbands are among the best I’ve ever worn.
I include a link to the H04 only to get you in the ballpark of the Skilhunt headlights. There are many others on the Skilhunt site.

Or buy a L-Type flashlight from Convoy with a 519A or B35AM in the CCT of your choosing for half (or less) the price.

To see colors correctly, I wouldn’t choose anything below 4500K.
My personal go-to is 5700K, but the B35AM in 4500K looks also beautiful.

Is this in total darkness or is there usually other light around. It probably varies.
You are unlikely to find a hank light that’s a straight shooter and a 90. Or probably not from any other manufacturer that has a wide beam that’s straight shooting and wide beam 90. So I would also recommend a 90° headlight. With a magnet. You can still use it handheld. My first choice would be an “Armytek wizard C2 Pro Nichia”.
The standard version is 4500k.
If you are in the US you have the option of getting a 3000k version from killzone flashlight in texas.
If you specifically wanted anduril then you need to specify that so these random flashlight models stop coming.

Probably gonna get dogpiled on, but if you want the best color accuracy, get a light with a halogen hotwire bulb.

No blue peaks or cyan valleys or anything of the kind, just a smooth blackbody-true radiator with good red content.

If you want a Hank light, I don’t think you can go wrong with the NTG emitters in 5000k

I would also go with the Convoy H4 with the B35AM @ 4500 K. But CCT level is a personnal story.
