I’m looking for a light for dog walking in a forest area. Currently using a mix of Astrolux EC01 XHP50.2 ~5500K and Sofirn SC31 Pro SST-40 5000K, with a Sofirn SC21 non-Pro LH351D 4000K as a backup. EC01 has a horrible tint, CRI, greenish fried egg pattern and driver. SC31 Pro is better, save for the driver. SC21 is perfect in every way, save for being a pocket light and not powerful enough to light app large swaths of land or forest.
Essentially, I’m looking for:
a bigger (single 21700) light, but still pocketable
an efficient driver that can sustain 500+ lumens for more than an hour
USB C to C charging with a powerbank function as a bonus
click on/off, hold to ramp, double-click for turbo, hold from off to eco, stepped mode optional
ideally 4000K, but 5000K is good with a decent CRI
a decent mix of flood and throw
non-Anduril
less than €/$75
So far I’ve come up with Sofirn SC33 and Wurkkos TS22 (probably with XHP70.3 HI), but perhaps there are other options.
I recommend XHP70.3 HI because it’s a good combination of brightness/efficiency and throw. It comes in two main variant - with 70 or 90 CRI (R70 or R9050).
The M21H is an awesome light … if you get one, grab a few TIRs so you can change them out. I would recommend the XHP 70.3 HI 4000K CRI70 which is 5D bin at the moment I write this (below BBL). The others and R9050 tend to be above BBL and/or lottery … or the FC40 5000K, mine was -0.0050 Duv.

Also, it’s complicated. I’m dog sharing a friend’s dog, but she’s staying at my place longer and longer, so it’s hard to say who’s dog she is at this point.
SFT is a pretty concentrated thrower with a pretty low CRI.Also I’d prefer the high CRI (R9050) XHP70.3 HI over the GT-FC. It’s brighter, throws better and still has some good tint.
I just write about light which I have in my hands to try in practise. SFT is concentrated thrower in m21f but it has much more sidelight than L21B or M21A and can be usable for allaround use.
I don’t ever try any light with 70.3 led but I plan to try it in close future
M21H with the XHP70.3 would be my recommendation. I’ve tried all of the TIRs for it, and the default (12 degree) is good for something like dog walking. Around $33. I prefer the high CRI 4000K version, but that will be more of a personal preference thing.
If you want better runtimes, the M26D is the exact same light as the M21H, takes the same TIRs and everything, but it takes 26650 and 26800 batteries instead of 21700. If you charge with USB anyway, it doesn’t matter as much what battery is in there (unless you mind the extra size and weight.)
Agree with others that the M21H with 8/12 degree TIR and 70.3 HI is a good all-arounder. I love the 4000K 70 CRI emitter from Convoy (5D bin) and I think it offers good efficiency and lumens with okay-ish color rendering and the tint is lovely.
26800 is way too heavy unless you want multi-day endurance. In my S21F (quad 519A version of M21H), I even stick an 18650 in it and it made it a lot lighter and that affected ergonomics tremendously in a good way.
My EDC is the Convoy M21F.
It’s similar to the M21H, but it has a traditional reflector instead of a TIR.
(I’ve never had a TIR flashlight that I liked.)
If you want a bit more throw, the M21E has a slightly larger reflector.
Sorry there mate. I forgot to include the usb-c. I guess the L21 would be a good jacket/cargo pants light. May I suggest the convoy M21H. It is smaller has USB-C and is 21700. There are a variety of emitter options in different CRI and CCT. It is also quite budget friendly. Around $40 no battery.
