Is there anything like a UltraFire C8 XM-L U2, that uses AA’s (4 max) or 14500’s (2 max) instead? I’m comfortable with swapping LED’s and drivers, but I don’t want to spend more than $20 total. I was also thinking about just getting a C8 and extension tube(s) and making adapter for 3 AA’s.
maybe this ?
unfortunately it use 3xAAA…
You have to contact them for shipping and then bug them to get you the best price for shipping as well to keep it down. Singapore post is the cheapest and it’s not too bad I ordered from them and had my light in two weeks.
I cant remember but did that have poor performance on AA’s or am I thinking about something else similar?
^ Cant quote your message for some reason.
I would say that any of these that use either AA or 14500 are better off with the 14500’s but then he did say he was up for modding it. I had a rook that I modded and it turned out pretty nice. I sold it though.
Hi,
Have you looked at shiningbeam.com:

He has two that run on AAs, and although I haven’t bought those, he (Bryan) has a good reputation for throwers. I’m not sure about 14500s, but email him and I think he’ll let you know. Also, one of those has XP-G2.
Not C8 class, but the Balder SE-1 with extension tube runs 2AA (NiMH) or 1*14500 (but I woudn't - the driver in my XM-L version failed early).
Maybe slightly over $20 with the extension tube. The XP-E version throws very well for a light in this 2AA class but I understand you may want someting physically larger.
I really doubt you will find anything running 4AA for $20 but if you do I'd like to know about it.
4xAA for $28 with BLF code, $8 over your budget but probably worth the extra $8.
@ezarc, is this the one you are still waiting on or was it the other one.
Keen to hear your comments when you get your hands on them.
Me too. Presures on ezarc.
I’m still waiting on both but the one I posted was already shipped 2+ weeks ago.
I asked them to send it via HK post and they replied they will, but then they sent it with SG post. My last order they sent with SG post took 29 days.
The other one they still don’t have in stock yet.
Update?

Then buy a Battery and Charger:
Or this Combo:
I found a “wide-Body” Ultrafire C8 1300 XM-L T6 light on ebay a fiew months ago that useed both a 18650 (with supplied plastic tube), a 26650, and 3 AAA batteries, ( with supplied 3xAAA holder/adapter) it has a very deep half smooth/half Orange peel reflector, and is the best 3xAAA thrower i have. i got it for around 18 bucks.
i did a search, but can not find the same model now anywhere…
I been thinking of modding this light because of its deep reflector that throws like a laser, but is under-driven.
I bought one off the same seller, in fact, I have bought from her, several times and is a good seller….
Would any other C8 work with 3*AA and adapter? namely any of these :

in a word, no, you need over 26mm id body tube to get 3aa in. if you want a 3aa c8 ish sized light, I like my xintd x3 from intloutdoor, although on 3aa you wont get the full output that a 26650 cell will give you.
Okay, thanks for the info gords
no worries. For what its worth the x3 is in my opinion a brilliant light, my step son used it for scout camp, mrs gords likes to have it available around the house. I find it great for walking about with or dropping in a pocket just in case.
