Looking for high power/output thrower

Hey all. Have been out of the light game a long time, really struggling to remember what qualities i liked most, but am definitely in search of something with a long throw, football field length would be nice, and it’s really bright that far out. I want to be able to identify birds and owls on limbs in my back yard at night through my binoculars of course.

Best I’ve got right now is Lumintop GT, and it just doesn’t produce enough. Thoughts/ideas?

Trying to stay under $100 if possible.

I don’t have a ton of throwers but the Wurkkos TS30S Pro is pretty nice. It will easily get you that distance and more. On sale right now too. LINK

Off the top of my head. Another vote for the TS30S Pro. Jin-Heng JKK76 with SFT40’s. Maybe even the Convoy 3X21 with SBT90.2 (still waiting for the order to arrive though. Or even the Convoy L8 ( I have the 7). The 3X21 will be a little more than that budget but with 3 21700’s would likely have the best run time.
Hopefully other can chime in with their choices, lots of good ones out there now.

Speras M4 or Emisar D1 will do this just fine

I bought my Convoy Z1 for that sort of purpose. My Klarus G20L (XHP70.2) wasn’t good enough out around 65m+. I started with the SST40 version and then upgraded it to the 8 Amp driver with the SFT40 (which was a big improvement.) You can zoom in or out, to tighten the beam, which is very handy.

I now know what I thought were possibly owls, are actually flying foxes (fruit bats.)

Another thing you might want to look at is if it has a tripod mount screw. Some do and some don’t. Make it easier if you are using binoc’s.

I don’t think anyone else here is into birdwatching, or they might have mentioned the importance of high cri. Personally I prefer more lumens, but if I was wanting to identify birds using a flashlight, then I’d understand the importance of seeing colors correctly. You might want to consider high cri as one of your criteria.

For output and throw, Convoy L8 with SBT90.2 handily beats all suggestions so far at 80-90ish bucks.

CRI is a very important consideration for bird identification as poohduck pointed out, if you want that look into large Convoy lights with XHP70.3HI high CRI emitter around 5000K CCT.

Bunch of great suggestions. So far I’ve purchase the Wurkkos TS30S Pro, Speras M4, & Cyansky K3.

After testing those I’ll determine if i need to keep trying. I’m guessing between the 3 I’ll find 1 or 2 more than enough for my needs.

check out this one too, for color accuracy

Just got the Cyansky K3 in and gotta say I’m not impressed at all.

Longest unsustained thrower: Convoy 3X21D (~1700m) or Convoy L8 (~1500m)
Best sustained thrower: Convoy L7 (~1300m)
Best small size thrower: Convoy m21E with SFT40 (~1000m)
Best very small thrower: Wurkkos TS11 with adapter for 18650 (~700m)

Probably not great to be shining bright lights at nocturnal animals, yuhknow?

1 Thank

Good point, still want a light that can do it though.

For under $100 I would say a Convoy SBT90.2 based light.

2 Thanks

Yeah, I’m not into SBT90.2 lights, but they will give you the most throw with a ton of output.
I do like Convoy throwers, though, so a Convoy SBT90.2 light sounds like an excellent recommendation. :+1:

Here’s a good website for SBT90.2 lights that I have bookmarked…

Just found this thread searching for a new thrower as well. Convoy L8 and 3x21D look great!

Any recommendations for something similar with Anduril UI?

Pick up a Thrunite TN42 v2 or an Acebeam K65GT if you have $200+ to spend. You could also do a Mateminco MT90 if you like Anduril. Those are 100mm ish head Sbt90.2 throwers. For cheap, the Convoy and Mateminco is good. If you don’t need 5000 lumens and 1650- 1800m turbo throw, then check out the Thrunite Catapult Pro or the Astrolux FT03 with neutral white sst40.

The Convoy 3X21D is Anduril. Just got one, good throw. Head is a bit bigger than I thought it would be but it has a lot of heft, for thermal conductivity.
