Looking for Lantern Optic

Anyone know a source for lantern optic ?

360 degree side emitter lens

No, but what LED? There are lots of (non HB) SMD side emitting LED’s out there.

Also Hank (user name Hank, not hank from I.O.) recently posted a dome’d optic he found that looks like it should be an extremely wide beam.

You might be able to find a source for the remote phosphor domes: http://www.futurelightingsolutions.com/en/Technologies/Semiconductors/Optoelectronics/Accessories—-LED—-Optoelectronics/Pages/4013327-CL-930-CAN30-PC.aspx?ManufacturerName=INTEMATIX&isFLS=true&IM=0 but then you could just buy a complete and thoroughly engineered GE lantern for $20.

Also, a household AC LED bulb can be modified to be used in DC applications. Although I dont own a whole lot of AC powered LED bulbs, mine are all name brand household LED bulbs and each of them lights up at a lower output when 12VDC is applied (no mod necessary).

An obvious option is that you could just buy one with an MR16 base for 12VDC operation and use it as is.

I have a 'philips master' led bulb in the kitchen, it has IMO the perfect optic for a lantern, with a reflecting cone on top for spreading part of the light sideways. I payed 15 euro but I think you can scavenge several parts of the bulb to make a nice lantern.

Like this?

Or this?

This is what im looking for.

hmm its good lantern. but it not available here

Im looking for optic to use with power leds like XML/XPG

from where you brought it?

I'm afraid it was the supermarket around the corner, and I just tried to look them up on ebay, and can't find this particular bulb with this optic. I found one on alibaba, but not on aliexpress. So it might not be trivial to acquire in Sri Lanka.

Scroll down and look for 'Side Emitting Lens' in the Type column.

Search ebay for the term “virtual filament”.

This was a hot item on hidplanet a few years ago. There were a few different optics available. I’d search it for you, but ebay is blocked on my work computer.

Interesting company, thanks for the link! I see that there is a colour mixing 36mm optic for the XM-L colour, narrow, medium and wide. Cereal, do you hear that?! It could fit the Supfire L5. So now is the question, where are they sold?

Thanks comfychair

ill search and update here
