Just now, after reading Old-Lumens thread/rant about chinese lights compared to Maglites, I've gotten it into my head that I need to build a 6D triple XM-L Maglite.
6D Mag $25 shipped on Amazon
3*XM-L drop-in from KD @ $30
8 pack of Tenergy 10,000mAH size "D" NimH cells for $50 shipped
Whatever a charger for those cells runs
Please convince me I don't need this and it would be a waste of hard-earned money to spend $125 +/- $10 on a 60,000mAH XM-L triple than will run all week in the woods on a single charge. I don't even go camping and I know the whole thing is a silly waste of money but it would be so cool to have! Also too large, too heavy, too impractical...
Anyone here already built such a beast? OldBobK?
PS: I just know if I hold out long enough the urge will pass since I have the attention span of a squirrel but it will always be in the back of my mind saying "build me...build me..."
You might as well spend it on a TK70. HA, huge AR lens that's orgasmic to look at, and that's with resale value, plus nearly twice the OTF output and > 5X the candlepower. And it's a Fenix. 170 plus.
I don't see a beast.....unless you like DD it (good luck on the cooling). For me the TK70 is just ok for its size. :D
Well, if you want an advice like "don't do it" you are asking the wrong people... GO, GO, GO is a more likely response from most of us but you are going to pay the bill so, think about it also.
If it wasn't for the battery investment it would be a done deal. :P Maybe I should just stick with the 2D Mag I bought on black friday, get a couple 32650 Li-Ion cells instead of NiMHs and still grab that triple XM-L drop-in. Or just buy the Beamtech triple for $50 and a single 22650. I kinda like that idea but the fun of building it just wouldn't be included like in a mag mod. *sigh*
Can i repeat again, that there are so many of these triples drop-ins which are either dead, or simply underdriven, and you need a lot of work to properly heatsink it to the host, that it simply is not worth the trouble? This is not a DRY which has been tested over and over again and to date there is only 1 failure (and with full support behind it). That copy belongs to Thommy. Also not a Uniquefire 3900 or TR-3T6.
Ask Foy, he just got one 1 day ago. 1.68A at the tail, which is pathetically low.
I had an urge yesterday. i was driving to work a different way than usual. then a cherry red subaru svx in a driveway under a tree caught my eye. blew the xterra around… not only one svx, but a complete parts car with no motor or trans…
now i have to decide if id rather want a handful of guns i rarely use, or a car I’ve wanted for years…
ok sorry for hi jacking…
Yeah, then add a wrx 5spd trans to it… almost had one 6 or 7 years ago.
long storey short, the sales man was an was and sold it for 400 less than he would me hours later when i told him i would be there the next day with cash
Do it! Then go to the Suburu SVX forums and get acquainted with the good folks there. I happen to be the proud owner of the very first SVX converted to 5spd stick. Haven’t been to those forums in some time as life has taken me away from that part of my life and into other areas but I sure do miss it. Haven’t been to a Reading meet in years either.
