Lumens needed for a headlight?

I’ve been looking for a good headlight so I can finish the gardening after dusk- does anyone have any suggestions about how many lumens you need for this?

I found a 1,200 Lumen one below but not sure if its overkill?

Welcome to BLF!

You can join

For $74 that light is a joke, are you the seller?

No I’m not- I was recommended those guys buy a friend but thought I’d check here first as spending $74 on a headlight seems like ALOT of money to me.

Do you have any good suggestions? (Here in AUS things are a bit more restricted as everything costs us more, but still)

Thanks for the offer- I’ll do some research and get back to you.

OK, the Nitecore HC50 in the 1st post above is probably my favorite and gives a lot of flood, would be great for garden work, less than $40. Another cheaper one that I also like a lot is the Xtar H2, also very floody, very lightweight, bought mine for less than $20 but you should be able to find one for $30 or less, not sure.

I like the crelant ch10 a lot

GearBest was selling some $7 headlights, with a bit of fix tape on the lens and it makes for a VERY good in close working unit

You can also go with a Convoy S series light in one of those simple headbands and it be not only a very good light but serves dual purpose (can be an EDC and a headlight)

They are also selling those smaller 18350 S2+ units as well (even at 1400mA and the lower modes it throws more than enough light, and w/ reduced current draw and the emitter running more efficiently it throws alot of light for a decent amount of time)

DO NOT BUY THE LIGHT YOU LINKED IN YOUR OP!!!

You can buy the exact same headlight you first linked to, for about 10-15$, if you get a good deal, even less.

also, the lumen numbers are completely false, seeing as it is a cheap aspheric.

That whole store is a steaming pile of BS.

There should be a warning on this shop linked to in the OP. I wont link to it but the website is a scam and ripoff. Its a real shame some people dont have any ethics.

What they said ^

I have the HC50, it is my favorite so far but is a bit on the heavy side…

If you want a lighter headlamp go with a Zebralight or a armytek tiara series.

I just had a look a that website, what a bunch of ripoff merchants, they have a SRK replica listed for $349!!! I really hope no one is buying their over inflated crap.

I’m gonna ask if you’re familiar with battery types? Because battery types matters in strapping something on your head imo

which type are you comfortable with?

usually, 200 lumen’s enough. it’s better to get several modes so you can switch to what you needs.

Amount of lumens required depends a lot on how good your eyes are. With my eyes, 3 lumens in a dark house is good, while 6-10 lumens is good for walking pace on trails. Given that, I’d say anything from 15 to 50 lumens would be acceptable for work at dusk and later. (No harm in getting a light that produces a lot more lumens on the highest output or less lumens on the lowest output for indoor use.) As mentioned above, a wide beam is what you want since a spotty beam would involve a lot of head movement to see what you’re doing… If it is an option, I also suggest something with a warm tint since it would be easier on the eyes since you’re working with nature.

It’s as low as $280 each if buy 10 units
May be he mixed up, actually want to sell it $280 for 10 units

Wow this store is the scammiest overpriced one I’ve seen in a while! A mere $39 for a pair of Ultrafire BRC batteries, the approximate worst you can find, (sometimes as low as $0.50 elsewhere) and as an added bonus, they may blow up on you, what a deal! http://www.ledflashlightstore.com.au/li-ion-batteries.html

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE!!

There are so many choices for both headlamp and batteries you can get that will actually work and not blow up on you.
