Lumintop Tool Magnet AAA review & Astrolux A01 comparison

This a review of the Lumintop ToolMagnet AAA and of my experience with Lucky Light Bank Amazon store. I am hoping this little review will get me going on posting a number of mods/builds that I would like to share with BLF. I have a few hundred pictures of the work I've done and I am a bit intimidated by all of them. Im finding it is hard to go back and document these things as apposed to documenting as I go along. Some of the things I've done are interesting and I think at least some will find them interesting. I.e. Extending & shortening the focus on an sk98, DD Olight S30, Convoy F6 RGBW w/ 4.5A total, Xintd x3 xpl HI, BD04 3Amps XPL HI, Olight m10 XPL HI w/ current boost, convoy s3 triple nichia, convoy m1 mt-g2 zener mod, output boost on: wk41, wk42, Olight s20, Manker U11, Skilhunt H02, Xtar H2. And others I cannot think of right now. But for now:

About 3-4 weeks ago now I noticed a post by Bella(Lucky Light Bank Amazon store) soliciting reviewers by offering free products. I believe the original post was deleted, but I decided to look into the opportunity. Bella claims that their store resells returned flashlights for a discount. I sent her a message and have communicating back and forth a bit. Excellent communicator by the way! After this I was told a Lumentop tool magnet was in its way. I wasn't realy sure if I would get it or not, but it arrived within the week. I opened the package and began the review as can be seen in this video. The video is long and unprofessional, but I compare the tool to the Astrolux A01 and that part of the video may be helpful to someone.

EDIT: Many have pointed out that on the A01 the difference between medium and high is listed to be from 10lumens to 100lumens. I have read this and have considered different variables, but no matter how i compare, my A01 seems to have a brighter med mode than most. I have received a light meter so once i figure out how to use it i will post some concrete data.

If anyone has a question about the light, I will do my best to find your answer.

Anyone desire to comment on the review or want to offer some constructive criticism regarding the efforts of my first review?

The video is requiring a sign in to view. I of course like the A01, and have been considering the Tool as well, so I would like to see the video…

Ahhhh… Thanks for informing me! I’m not sure why, I’ve just started using YouTube. I will take a look at how to fix it now.

Ok. I think I fixed it. Will someone please test it and see if you are able to view the video without a login? Thanks

Worked good for me.

Great!

If there is an aspect that you would like a closer comparison, let me know. I will see if I can help. Pictures or videos are possible.

Good video, I liked the comparison between the two lights… Thanks for fixing the video.

I did not realize how skinny the Tool is until next to the A01…

I think if I get a Tool, it will be the magnetic version as you showed. I never did like the look of the tail switch model…

Thanks for the coupon as well…

The tool is definately thinner and it feels lighter in the hand as well. The A01 is a great light as well, but if you are going for light and small, then the Tool moves to the top.

I’m intrigued by your comment that there’s not much difference in brightness between medium and high for the A01. Jumping from 7 to 102 lumens between the two settings, I see a big difference in brightness. I wonder if your ambient lighting is playing tricks with your perception. Try them again in the dark.

Interesting that the Tool Magnet is not available with Nichia.

Are the magnetic tail caps available separately?
Looks like the discount code works for the copper version as well.

Enelooper,
I have tried it in the dark and I have very little difference between medium and high even in the dark. You have not experienced the same? I have another that has arrived but havnt tried that one yet. I will let you know what I see.

Solar,
There are three options Lumintop when buying this light. With clicky, with magnetic cap, or as a set.

Video works like a charm!

I think you have a very likeable voice, clear.

Nice comparison

Thanks for sharing
Will sub later.

It works for any color of the tool including titanium version.

In all my units difference between mid and high mode in A01 is enormous!!, with a good NiMH of course.

I have tested the other two a01s that I have. I am finding that hi mode seems to be sensitive to battery charge. I get the best performance on high from a fresh lithium primary. The difference between medium and high is significant with this battery.

However, as the charge wares down so does the output in high mode making the difference between medium and high not as pronounced. I can see this difference even with a fully charged Eneloop. The primary is brighter than the Eneloop at first. The primary then fades quickly, but the Eneloop seems to hold its brightness well into its discharge.

Idk? This is all subject to my interpretation and my inexperience may be causing me to judge incorrectly. Between the tool and the a01, the tool looks brighter in all modes. The cool white may have something to do with it as well?

Precisely. The CW of the Cree has that advantage, but loses out on color rendition.

Also don’t forget, the three modes of the two flashlights are at different levels: 0.7 vs 5, 7 vs 32, and 102 vs 110. Hardly a fair fight.

I looked into this and the Lumintop store on amazon sells the magnetic caps for 5 bucks as an add-on item. So even with Prime shipping it’s a pain to get.
