It must be due to the added LED & resistor. I haven’t started working on drivers yet.
I did not expect it to work but now by fast pressing the switch the light cycles through the modes without turning off. Same mode order.
If i turn the light on, wait 3 seconds and press the button again it will turn off.
Here’s a picture of what i did.
1+ ground ring to resistor to LED+ . LED- to 2-capacitor.
The ground ring is positively fed through the light body from a bleed resistor on the driver i believe.
The 2- connects to the battery-.
I have not tested the light with a 1.5v cell.

It would not be difficult for the manufacturer to make these stock with some small changes to the light.
They would sell like hotcakes, remember though, you saw it here first :laughing:
