MagLite LED 2D At Lowes Sale

+1, mine were also in aisle 18.

nvm i found it today, got a price matched gunmetal one at HD, it was isle 28, lol

I tossed mine into the sphere ’o many mysteries. It is sold as a 134 lumen light… I measured 135 lumens with two fresh Duracells! CCT was 5386K I probably should do a full run, but am probably to cheap to burn down a couple of fresh D alkalines… hell, they cost about 1/3 of what the light did.

BTW, the AA LED is sold as 77 lumens, I measured 69.5 lumens. CCT was 5555K

The room was a bit on the cold side (60F), so the batteries might have been a bit sluggish.

Gunmetal sounds cool. wish I heard about that earlier.

So do these have the Rebel reflector? I suppose not, because it probably refers to those Maglites with the Luxeon Rebel LED, hence Rebel reflector.

if not where is a good source?

The short story is I told the manager at Lowe’s that I had bought 18 of the 2D’s LED Maglites from Home Depot the past two days because they have as they coin it, a “Meet and Beat” policy with competitor’s. (I know that term prolly sounds just a touch onanistic to some of you but hey that’s what they call it, not me.)

Anyhow, the Manager didn’t ‘beat around the bush’ either, ahem, so to speak: “We don’t beat pricing on our own ads. Our pricing is what it is. If Home Depot can beat this price and give you 10% less as you told me they did, we won’t match that.”

So then I sez, “I was gonna buy 12 more Maglites by tonight from you guys if you could’ve beat Home Depot’s price plus their 10% discount. So I guess I’ll go there and buy it cheaper from them.” They shrugged and gave me that look like we don’t care. I just turned and walked away. I ended up down the block at HD’s and walked out with 12 more at the same deal of $13.47 each. 8)

So Scaru’s laudable plan of a somewhat deranged attack that he sent me on while indeed BLF-noble in nature (remember above all else, we are frugal basturds), was a bust at this Lowe’s. And prolly would’ve been a bust at every Lowe’s because I think I understand why as you will too……

Ya see, it’s because I found out that their cost on these 2D’s is get this…… $14.99 That’s right, they lost 0.02 cents on every torch they had on BF sale. So how much is Home Depot losing just so they can stick it in the customer’s mind that Lowe’s their main competitor sux hind t*t? Well, it works out that for every 30 Maglite 2D’s that I acquired (assuming their cost is the same as Lowe’s which it is prolly) comes out to $1.52 per torch.

So Lumatic took Home Deepoooooooooo to the crazy-cleaners for a grand total of $45.51 so they could stick it to Lowe’s so I could then get a great MagLite for about 45% off and then stick it to both of them. :open_mouth: Actually, I like both companies and they do try to sell U.S. made products too so I’m just being a bit scruffy here on behalf of the bargain-hunt is all.

I bulk-bought more than my usual 15 here because IMO this was an extraordinary bargain of a deal. Even though these have been sold in the past before at this price , I still think those kinda days are gonna be bygones and fast. Inflation is gonna hit us hard folks, I’m afraid. :frowning:

FWIW, I got 13 gun-metals and 17 blackies. The gunnies are not particularly easy to snag btw. I’m pretty pleased with this bargain-hunt. These are going into a special drawer of their own in the garage. :open_mouth: And those gun-metals are especially bitch*n. What a beautiful finish they have. They feel like butter and the gray hue is just faboo.

If anybody knocks Maglites of this nature here for the bucks I think they’re nutz and don’t have a clue basically. They will catch my wrath. :cowboy_hat_face:

I agree they are one hell of a light for even regular price let alone at this steal of a price. This probably was one of the best deals going on flashlights for the money for the Black Friday weekend.

a fine product of this quality proudly made in the U.S.A. from American workers for this ridiculously low price?

IMO it’s almost criminal not to buy it at this price and at least support those workers at the original wholesale level. Maglite is still making a profit here IOW which ensure that American workers keep working. And to buy it in bulk if ya can swing it whenever possible to really show it. 8)

Very well stated.

I guess I ought to order 2 more.

I am very impressed by how much they throw, makes me want to get a few more. also, the gunmetal color, is it just the gray color? or is it something else?

Lumatic only got a 1.50 off, Lowes did price match mine. Of course I only bought 2...

I dared to compare this Maglite to the mighty HD2010! Read about here

BTW, it was this flashlight that brought me here to BLF. I bought a bunch of these last year and realized that my perception of single LED lights was wrong. I, as most of the general public thought LED’s are dim and it takes many of them to give any kind of brightness. Most people would pass over this light only because it has a single emmiter. Everbody on my Christmas list last year got one of these.

Don’t forget Lowes gives an extra 10% for Military discount and 5% if you use your Lowes credit card.

The 2D mag is less problematic than the 2AA but the beam is still fickle to focus to something less than nasty, esp indoors. The $5 wootlites have these beat on beam (and tbh imo a better daily user), but the mag is somewhat better quality overall and better looking in gunmetal.

i agree the beam is something to be desired, especially on flood, unless you like doughnuts of course. . But on throw mode the beam is fairly good, and the spill is pretty good on throw mode too

Is the deal on the 2d’s still active today?I have a HD next to work and might try to snag some more….gunmetal if I can find one!I agree with Lumatic, the new style Mag LED is a much better light than the 134 lum. specs would suggest. The only stock LED mags I had before this were with the Luxtin droppin, not even close to what the new ones are like!

Yea but outdoors the MagLite LED 2d looks great. You’ll never notice the ringy beam outdoors.

Yes, it focuses well. I measured ~38k lux on mine, 5k for 2AA. The problem with the “focus” isn’t so much rings as non-uniformity. Nearly impossible to get a symmetrical beam; terrible white wall hunter.

$15 is what they’re worth IMO. Better deal than $10 2AA.

+1 on the woot Maglite clone ... that was a deal and a half ..

Onan had nothing to do with meet and beat .. It was pure disobediance .

Ugh, it was kinda a play on words as in ‘meat and beat’. Onanistic and so forth. 8)

But thanks for the wiki lesson though.

hunting with ‘ringy’ beams for a torch that is meant to be Beat the Crap Out of It Rugged, works more than adequate for highly illuminating medium to far off objects, and is supremely capable of beating the living sh*t out of some perp and will still likely get reholstered for another day. This is starting to enter geekdumitis and stuffy BSville. Not a combination I’m fond of when taking into context the design-intent of the big Maglites. :cowboy_hat_face:

……‘$15 is what they’re worth’. Yeah, right. Sure. Oh, and that also has a lifetime warranty which for the most part gets honored without question.

“White wall hunting”. They were never designed in the first place to hunt those either. Geez. I’m quite sure the focusing system designers at Maglite could very easily have accomodated those that look for white-wall ring perfection over practicality too. I guess then this would’ve been worth more than $15 to some. :open_mouth:

You are enterng BSville. Population: 1,000,000,000,000,000. Elevation: 95,000 feet.
