My new mobile phone uses one of those magnetic charging cables (in addition to a micro-usb port). On the outside of the phone are two charging pins and a magnetic pad in between. The cable is widely for sale (some already have one for their phone, like me) and the phone-side of the connector is for sale separately as well for $5, but it looks like a 3 cents part.
Being a simple and inherently waterproof charging connector, this sounds way superior to me for flashlights with build-in charger than the usual micro-usb connector (wacky, and ugly/more difficult to waterproof).
I was thinking about this the other day, similar but the way the MacBooks have the 4 pin magnetic charge point, would be a great idea especially for waterproofness
Yes, that's the principle, the difference being that using the (I think my one is in use by Sony only?) phone cable, if you break one, you do not need to order a dedicated Klarus cable, but buy (a cheap) one for sale around the corner.
Correct. I would rather have a magnetic cord anyways. It actually looks very easy to implement, possibly even after-market. The hard part is getting a good, reliable, built-in charging circuit.
Does the magnetic connector only fit one way? Looks like the “lower part” has an oval shaped plastic shroud around the pin and the upper is just round.
So much more sensible having a magnetic or wireless charging system, loss count of the micro usb charging leads i’ve broken and even a phone I damaged the charging socket on, by grabbing the phone and forgetting the charging lead was still plugged in
