Mini-review on HS42

What I like:
Has a red light and it has multiple levels.
Has a flood light
Has a spot beam
Headband is decent
Price includes battery and cable (18650)
Has moonlight mode on white and red*
Has a magnetic end cap
Flood+Spot lights up my whole front yard 50yds X 75yds
Price on Sofirns website is $28.00 (a great price) (code - SNOFF20)

What I dont like:
End of tube power switch instead of on top.
Clunky UI
Plastic lens
*Red moonlight mode is more like 5-10lumes not 1

All in all I like the light. I ran it on turbo while outside and it never got hot (temps 9F). While inside I ran it on high and it never got hot. It seems to be very efficient. Some of the older headlamps I have turn into soldering irons after 2 mins.

The UI is a bit clunky requiring 3 clicks to change modes from red->white or white to red. It then requires double clicks to change withing mode and single clicks for other things. If you forget UI you go from red to turbo-white-strobe. BAM YOUR EYES ARE TOAST. Not a light you want to have sitting in a drawer for 3 months and then use at night.

3 Thanks

I personally think the UI is fairly good, only dislike is that cycling Spot, Flood, etc requires 3x presses each time. It should have been 3H.

Not bad.

I have this headlight, but I never use it.
I much prefer my Sofirn HS20.

No red light, I need it for farm animals at night.

I wasn’t making a recommendation, but now I am.

How about the HS21?
I don’t own one (and it doesn’t appeal to me), but it has a red light. :red_circle:

I just bought the hs21, sofirn has 25% off USA local wherehouse. It was $35 and free ship.
I’ll let you know which I like better. The 21 looks good and the reviews are solid. They complain about the small on/off button.
