Modding Tactical Flashlight From Hi, Med, Blink to Hi, Dim to off and back up to HI...

Sorry this is long. I have read enough posts here where it seems MORE INFO is better regarded than NOT ENOUGH.

The short story: I am looking for someone to mod a new light to match my current(images of new and old below). Hopefully I can than modify additional lights on my own using the modder’s creation as an example. I suspect there is a chip to be programmed to give me the features I am looking for…hoping a budget of $250 to the modder will take care of the labor.

If there is an interest please message me.

The long story:

I have been using a rechargeable “tactical” worklight for about 8 years, an LE PRO WORK LIGHT…not available for over 5 years. Main feature is it is rechargeable via USB, Torch with COB White and Red sidelight.

But the features I use greatly: Torch and COB are fully dimmable:

  1. One click puts torch in HI mode
1.1 Next click and HOLD dims light from Hi to LO.
1.2 Release from hold locks in the brightness level.
1.3 Next click and hold, and brightness increases back up to Hi.
1.4 Releasing will hold the brightness level
1.5+ Next click and Hold… ad infinitum.
  2. Second click(non hold) lights White COB.
2.1 Next click and HOLD dims light from Hi to LO.
2.2 Release from hold locks in the brightness level.
2.3 Next click and hold, and brightness increases back up to Hi.
2.4 Releasing will hold the brightness level
2.5+ Next click and Hold… ad infinitum.
  3. Third click(non hold) lights RED COB. This is non dimming.
3.1 Click and hold, Red COB Flashes.
  4. Fourth click(non hold), light is off.

I did stock up on a few of these lights, but nonetheless, after much use the lights are now dying. I guess I could try to replace the batteries, but I thought it was just time to seek a replacement.

After much looking and personal testing(way too much according to the lady of the house), I have found a flashlight with the torch and COB white and red side lights that meet my standards in regards to light quality and output.

However, the new flashlight does not have the dimming feature which I so greatly desire.

I do have soldering skills, though not “typically” on the PCB level. I am hoping I can send these two flashlights to a modder(USA based as I am in SoCal), who will be able to mod this new flashlight to match the old flashlights features. I understand a new board/chip/etc. may be needed.

Additionally, once the new board is created, I would have 9-11 other flashlights to mod. Whether the modder does them or I will depend on the level of skill/costs involved. Hopefully I can do the work, using the prototype as an example.

I don’t have many details on the old flashlight. The new flashlight there are more details, but being a “budget” flashlight, not sure if the 10 on order will all match what I have…I suspect testing will weed out a couple.

New light: (I KNOW this is not a 100000 lumens light…and the battery with the unit is about 2500 mAH, not the 5000 described…though it is a 26650 in size) 100000 Lumens Powerful Flashlight, Rechargeable Waterproof Searchlight XHP70 Super Bright Handheld Led Flashlight Tactical Flashlight 26650 Battery USB Zoom Torch for Emergency Hiking Hunting Camping - Walmart.com

If you want to keep the current driver and just change the firmware, please post pictures of it.

Also, from the pictures on the website, the emitter does not look like a genuine XHP70.

I will have to find some videos of how to dissassemble and I will post photos. Thanks.

I was not expecting a genuine CREE due to the posts I saw here. Nonetheless, the output is adequate for my uses…though it would be interesting to me to swap it out for comparison.

How much is a real CREE XHP70? I see $10 on Digikey.

Also, for anyone who is like me and wants to dissassemble a Chinese XHP70 flashlight:

Wow! Its pure chinesium!
