Anyone know or seen any (lense/emitter) mods for the Imalent MS03? I would like if there was some sort of attachable glass lense for a more narrow and longer throw.
Also; any recommendations for the best ‘bang for buck’ 21700 battery?
I dont think the ms03 is a good modding host. It is specifically designed to prevent tampering with. For example the bezel is glued down and you cant grip it to remove it due to the 3 cutouts. Also the driver is sealed and glued into the flashlight.
Maybe if you could get into it you could try install a triple TIR if you can find one that fits and maybe some SFN leds. Im not aware of any ms03 mods so far and yes it would be incredibly difficult to do.
The flashlight already pushes the limits for what you can do in a small host like that. Mods for higher performance would simply be impractical.
A good battery for the price is molicell P42A or P45B which have a nice capacity and a very high discharge rating. Remember the MS03 cannot accept standard flat top 21700s. You need long ,protacted button tops most of which have a very low discharge rating which wont meet the flashlights high demands. You will have to modify the battery by adding a button top and maybe even at that add a spacer type component to achieve a good connection. The older version of the ms03 used to take proprietary batteries which have the negative terminal beside the positive terminal. If you have this battery you can NOT use regular batteries with terminals on opposite ends provided they are the right length.
+1 above. Good luck getting inside it (lots of red or blue loctite) and if you do you’re pretty much stuck inless you know how to reflow LEDs. If you can get the mcpcb out you can swap in some Xhp70.3 hi leds in like high cri or a more neutral tint. That’s about it though. Anything else will require extensive and potentially destructive modifications. Best bet is to get a new light with the features you want. There’s tons!
Is there any other (EDC) flashlight manufacturer that produces a good and bright unit with a ‘head’ that you can turn for different focus/throw/beam? To get ‘best of both worlds’ so to speak.
Sounds like you’re talkin about a zoomie? The best affordable zoomie that i’ve heard of is the Convoy Z1?
I don’t own a Z1 but I have a MS03 and I love it for it’s pure floodiness.
Zoomies are a good compromise for spot/flood. They do both fine, but with caveats. You lose a ton of light on the ‘spot’ mode, but get good throw. I think the best you can do is something like a Convoy M21H. You can easily swap the optic for a floody or throwy optic. The Z1 is cool (i dont own one), but i have a few zoomies that I’ve modded.
