More help sneaking flashlights home.

I thought I would post an ideas on how to bring a new light home without having to fight with the little woman.

I did this once with a gun but flashlights would work just as well.

Before arriving home, take your new flashlights, batteries and charger completely apart and put them in an old cardboard box. It's actually better to have several lights in the box all reduced to their smallest pieces. You will find that this is indeed a good way to get more than one light into the house at the same time without having an unwanted confrontation with your lady. As you come through the front door, call your wife in to look at what you have brought home. Act very excited and don't hesitate to pat yourself on the back for your incredible find as she looks at the box full of parts. She is only going to see a box full of junk which is exactly what you want her to see. Say something like this.

I stopped at a garage sale on the way home and look what I found. The old lady said her deceased husband Hubert had this old box full of junk sitting on a shelf in the garage. He was going to try to put them together but he died before he got anything done. She told me that I could have them all for $5 as she just wanted to clean out some of his old junk. Can you believe it Honey, I got all this for only $5 because she thought it was junk.

Now here is the important part. Make sure you remember how to put all the pieces back together correctly. Otherwise you just may have a box full of junk.

There you go guys. Isn't that better than fighting about the new lights you just had to have?

If you are interested, I can post other hints and helpful pointers.

I just tell her that I got a new flashlight or can she sign for a package. I guess I got lucky and she supports the new habit. Before it was guns, cigars, BBQ , and now flashlights.

You collected BBQ's !!!

How many did you have?

Have them ship to some friend address and collect them when notified if your wife can't tolerate the hobby. Do a HONEST check if your buying behaviour is under control.

I love weber grills and smokers. I have a total of 7

I just ship mine to my office! Receptionist is probably wondering what all these Chinese air mail packages are though!

Islandchanel - that is just weird! Ok, ok, so is collecting flashlights.

Oh well I guess one for every day of the week isn't too bad.

I am the one that always checks the mailbox. My mailbox is at the end of the 3/4 mile long dirt road that we live on. This gives me time to open the package up, take the light out, check it over quickly, stick it in my coat pocket, and my wife usually doesn't notice I have a new light unless its one that looks a lot different from the other ones. Accessories like batteries she never sees!

I assume the problem is that you bought them, not that you are receiving them. Sooooooooo... as far as she knows, those lights coming in the mail could be given to you by flashlight companies for you to review.

It works, trust me. :)

Or

Just get you man-bits out of her purse and tell her what's up.

I'd opt for the first if you know whats best for ya.

So you all got youself one of those 'wives'? I heard they are expensive to maintain, way more than, say, a flashlight collection ;)

Yeah but the additional flashlights are way easier to smuggle into the house than the additional wives.

I used to order my suff at work. My better half doesen't mind that i do but when i had some 10 orders to recieve i rather pick them at work (more confortable than driving to the postal office) to not have to explain why so many packages at one time. Recently i even "trained" her to use ebay smartly for "her" needs and it is pretty happy spending less for things like these for much less than in local stores. To each it's own. She knows my paypal password and it's up to her if she wants to check what i buy. Many would think this is a bad idea but i find my wife expenses very resonable.

Since i sell my excess flashlight stuff she doesen't mind a bit.

I keep only about 5 flashlights to myself. The rest is gonna find a new owner. Had up to 40 flashlights at one time and i got really strange looks at me. Being a rather rational i soon sold or gifted the excess. Had 10+ knives and kept just 3 for myself.

If you're going the modding route i suspect you'll have problems with "hiding" the staple spare parts

I currently and usually have "in stock":

25+ emitters (7-9 XM-L's, Q5 XR-E and XP-E , R2, XP-G R5, osrams... and few others)

20+ 17mm circuit boards (mostly AMC based ones) + other non flashlight related regulators or stepdown converters

80+ various sized o-rings

30+ various sized lenses and various TIR optics

10+ tailcap replacement switches

7+ various bare flashlight hosts (such as L2 clones, skyray p60 hosts, MRV's...) for custom projects upon demand.

A load of components like electrolytical capacitors, transistors, resitances, diodes...

Solder, various glues (including thermal), Epoxies, bare drop-in's, 16mm insulator discs, sanding paper of various grits, silicone oil, a soldering iron and a soldering station (adjustable with grounding), a ton of pliers, screwdrivers, tweezers and whatnot.

All this if well organized takes quite some space. Recently i purchased a 5 drawer cabinet and my wife is pretty happy i don't have all this things always on my desk (i agree, my desk looked like Hiroshima after the bomb) Especially if i count computer parts too (power supplies, fans, adaptors, cpu's, heatsinks, motherboards, hard drives, other cards, cases...) I really need a spare room for my hobbies.

Chidwack, nice thread. hehe, i opened a similar (fun) thread on another forum (non-flashlight forum) and what happened? i got reprehended by one mod (and it was personal, i am sure) with the words "we dont condone immoral activities or plans such as yours neither do we support nor tolerate discussions on such topics. grow up and learn to be honest and live with the consequences. bla-blah yadda..". my thread was closed and i was handed a warning in form of official infraction credits.

i guess this forum doesnt take immoral propositions too seriously ;) -- so when do we take DD on a ride again? J)

That's easy! I turned my wife into a flashaholic, problem solved!

Yeah I am working on turning my two-year old daughter into a flashaholic. She already has chosen the SK-68 as her favorite light because she likes the big flood pattern. She can turn all of my lights on and off, and she prefers to have the ceiling lights off in her bedroom so she can use the flashlight to play instead. She will grab an SK-68, turn it on, and say "Get your flashlight Dad, lets go!"

Morality wasn't explicitly a requirement in the OP.

Pretty interested how many BLF'ers are not totally true with their wifes, girlfriends or family about flashlights. I suspect there are some form of deviance from the ugly truth now and then.

I really do not advocate lying or hiding the flashy (and other) stuff from your wifes, girlfriends, family etc. but i believe it does happen more often than not in the society we live.

Pretty happy that my wife tolerates my hobby (and others) like a champ! She finds peace of mind with thinking: Well... something must be his weak point... electronics... Phew! At least is not football or other sports maniac... and sometimes makes something usefull out of it instead of just playing with stupid lights.

The hardest part was however changing my eating habits. I battled for more than 3 years untill she finally accepted my way at nutrition (she is free to eat all she likes, it's just me on "diet") which is kind of not so tasty, clean, high protein, decent carbs and healthy fats based.

As a power lifting enthusiast it is a necessity not a momentary lapse of reason. Eventually she likes my figure change from chubby 98Kg to athletic 89Kg in the last 5 months since i went back to the gym.

Some of you guys might want to ease up a little. I hope you realize that my post was a fictional post. I enjoy making people smile.

Actually, my wife loves my lights. Although not nearly as interested as I am about them, she likes them and when I get one that she really likes, she asks me to buy her one. This happened with my iTP A3 E0S and my UF-H3.

She knows better than complain about a new light when she has things coming in the mail that she ordered. We are both happy as long as each of us are happy. I could really care less what she buys as long as it doesn't completely ruin our budget.

I will admit that things were not this way with my first wife. She watched what I bought like a hawk sometimes. She didn't mind if I bought a gun, knife or flashlight but she couldn't quite grasp the idea of me buying several of each.

When you will remount it on your desktop your wife will not recognize that is the same thing and you will need more bla bla bla, just do the man and face the consequences of your sick expensive hobbies ...after all you love your comfortable car right? xD

I don't have a comfortable car.

So true. Getting married has really put a cramp on my dating.
