It’s amazing that so much work goes into something with such simple and elegant lines. Well done Don, as usual. Another beautiful light!
She’s pretty. Once again nice work.
Beautiful light. Great job.
Don, what a beautiful project. That turned out great! Following along, I must confess that it wasn’t until you papered the window that I finally understood what form the lantern would be. It has such a classic heirloom look to it…the kind of thing like old desk and mantle clocks that could be found on top of furniture in every home. Wonderful job, really.
Thanks for all the kind comments. I truly appreciate them.
This is going to be gifted at Christmas.
I love this. Want to build something similar for my wife to keep near the bed.
MtnDon, I have to say this: you are an inspiration! Not only because of this build, but because of the others you’ve been doing throughout these years!
I love the concept, I really liked the heat sink driver mount, and it is a classy and good looking build
Well done
I want to take a moment to note that after operating on maximum output for an hour or so the body of this light does get warm to the touch. However, it never develops a hot spot and never gets more than warm to the touch. Not warm enough to get out the IR thermometer and take a reading. Same thing for the temperature at the heatsink while re-charging the cell. Warm, but that is all.
Thanks to everyone who had a look at what I did.
I appreciated the numerous fabrication related tips and tricks you shared with us in this build thread.
Aw shucks … thank you.
Beautiful craftsmanship Don!
Thank you. I hope you have a better New Year.
Fun to look at these photos of an excellent project again, and I hope whomever received this light for Christmas is enjoying it!
I wanted to say that I noticed that nifty Klein tubing cutter in the photos…on a whim I decided I needed it. Really nice tool - I have a few decent tubing cutters but this is quite excellent.
I just cut some micro bushings with it using 10mm x 0.2mm stainless tubing. 1mm wide and 1.5mm wide. Slid a transfer punch inside for support and I’ll be darned but this cutter actually tracked so accurately and handled that ultra narrow cut just perfectly. A minimum amount of strokes on a stone to make them neat. They’ll be used for some 3" saw blades I got, advertised as a 3/8" arbor but in reality a 10mm…these tiny bushings fit perfectly and make the blade useable now at high rpm’s. The most difficult part was accurately scribing a mark so close to the end of the tubing.
So…thanks for the excellent photos and always including your tools and such in the process.
Our son received it at Christmas. Yes, that is a great tube cutter. Klein has made excellent tools for many decades and still produce a large number in the USA. They have assorted lines with a big share in the electrical field. I have a variety.
Not only did I enjoy the craftsmanship but the artful merging of exotics was extremely satisfying!
Well done!
