Hey there BLF. Here is my most recent review (and my second knife review) for the Ganzo G203. I was asked by Gearbest to pick something out that looked interesting- and the G203 was a particular tool that I didn’t find a proper review of on the YouTubes. Since, I had just broken my Leatherman Wave- (after replacing a stolen Wave) I decided to try a budget multi-tool too see if there was anything I had been missing. How does the quality stack up?
I have owned or purchased several Leatherman tools over the years. My first being a PST, which you’ll see in this review. Over the years, I have bought the Supertool 400, Sidekick, PST, Rebar, Micra, and 2 other Waves for gifts and personal use. The problem is, once you set them down and leave them unattended for a few minutes they can walk off. And let’s be honest, sometimes they break too. You get a 25 year no questions asked warranty with Leatherman- I think Ganzo gives you 10 years of conditional warranty though. So I’ll have the Ganzo to use as a replacement as I send off my Leatherman for repair.
I was truly interested to see how well this compares to a Leatherman. Anyway it stacks up nicely. It lacks a bit in the overall engineering and sleekness department, but it’s way cheaper for a lot of people. It comes with a bit kit and sheath, and if you buy it below you can get it for a steal at $17.69. Making it a nice backup, gift, or a tool if you don’t want to spend a lot of dough. Gearbest provided a coupon code and link. I wasn’t told how long the code is good for, but get it while you can!
HAHA nah I’m on my phone… Sometimes chrome does that and I’ll restart the phone and it’ll be fine but I used the youtube app since I’m too lazy to restart it lol
God, our trees here are full of the crap. That and huge grape vines. One of these days, those massive trees are going to succumb to the weight. Hopefully it’ll be after the lease is up.
I’d imagine- I’ve heard good things about them. But since I have a wave as my main EDC there’s has never been a reason for me to shell out more. Considering the bit kit on my wave and the tiny screwdrivers are two things the Victorinox doesn’t have, that I like.
But not everyone wants to shell out $100 for upper end Leatherman, Victorinox, or SOG tools. The Leatherman warranty makes it worth it though. Too bad it doesn’t cover those instances when people jack it! I wonder if anyone has tried using the Ganzo warranty? I’d be curious to see what they actually cover.
Looks like the exterior is different and that’s it. The 201-H is stainless steel (I’m speculating), and the G203 is aluminum. Maybe the G203 is a tad lighter? I can’t find any direct comparions though. Functionally they appear identical.
For instance the tools on a Leatherman Wave each have each have a specific HRC. The blade has a different hardness than the spring-action scissors. Leatherman does not define the actual hardness of each tool. They decide what is best for each tool. On Ganzo multi-tools all the tools have the same HRC. This lowers the manufacturing costs. I do not currently own any Ganzo tools but what I like about them is that on most models you do not have to open the multi-tool to get to the tools.
You’re right. While a lot of Ganzos have an HRC 58, it looks like a few in them only are 55. My Wave is currently in the Leatherman shop, but the Ganzo does offer the advantage of being able to pull out all of the tools while being closed. I’d like it if the 203M had a little bit sleeker of a sheath. I like the smaller leather one you can get with the wave, because the big nylon ones often get in my way.
“Then theres the flathead screwdriver, which does a good job of screwing, but not when compared to politicians” . All sorts of things sprang to mind, from uk politicians furnishing their ‘second homes’ to your own Bill Clinton. good review by the way!
