My daughter's "Bring a Flashlight to School" day...

So… my daughter is in second grade and for the last month of school, her class is doing something a little silly and different each day. Well, one day is “Bring a Flashlight to School” day, where the kids can use them to read in the dark.

The teacher clearly does not know what a flashaholic is, or does not think that any of the students’ parents are flashaholics. But this has really opened a big ol’ can of worms as to what I should send her in with…

This is how you get called funny names.
“Yo mama’s so blind, she needed BLF GT90 to read in the dark” :confounded:

In the end it would not be wise to send her to school with anything that you don’t already let her handle unsupervised at this point in time. I would send her with a headlight. And maybe something extra for a very limited and brief demonstration in a safe direction. But she would need extensive training to be able to fully operate and lock out any such “demonstration” device.

2nd grade…hmmm? Yep, lights in everybody’s eyes!
I would think a headlamp for the actual reading and then something like the Astrolux K2 since it has all the bells and whistle things and is cheap.

something incandescent, dim, light and plastic. you do not want other parent sue you for blinding their kids, or for injuries from a light falling on their kids foot. they will sue you for giving such dangerous light to your kid. Some people will sue you for anything, there are people who sue others for a living. you never know who those are until they slap you with a lawsuit.

OR give your kid a color light, colors look different in colored light, pics in their books will “change colors”. every tried bbq in green or blue light? the meat looks scary, lol

Imalent MS18.
Anything less would be uncivilized

Seriously though i would pick a 100-300 lumen flashlight at most if you have something that low or can be programmed for such a low maximum.

In my case i have a 100 lumen single AA light that i find works well and has one mode.

Kids love bling

and it’s only 10 bucks

during a Cub Scout meeting, this is what we learned about kids and flashlights:

1. they will take them apart; by force if necessary.
2. they will dare each other to stare at them without blinking.
3. they will have flashlight fights…sort of like Star Wars light sabers.

if we were to do it again, we would glue the parts together so they cannot be dismantled.
hopefully, there will be enough supervision to deter a determined disassembly.

I’m thinking this isn’t a great idea here

A low powered headtorch like the Energiser type would be a good way to let children see that using artificial lighting can still leave busy hands free to manipulate, work, read etc. Or something clip-on that fits onto a hat brim or shirt. Kids have busy hands, they don’t want to be using one to hold a light source. Just my view, have a 4yr old grandson.

That made me laugh……

And “bring a flashlight to school day “was never allowed to happened again.

LOL Yes!

It might pay to warn the teacher of potential problems before she finds out after it’s too late.

Perhaps she can warn the parents to approve for safety the flashlight their child brings, or the teacher could even change to giving a class on flashlights and headlamps without the class bringing in random flashlights.

Bort unfortunately is savage and his most powerful flashlight is only 4000 lumens (Convoy M3-C).

I would send my 1 mode Romisen RC-G2 with 1AA and 100 lumen XP-G chip.

Headlamp for practical use.

BLF GT or GT90 for WOW Factor.

Time for an Imalent MS18.

I let my grandkids play with the Ozark Trail lights from Walmart. Tough little lights and if they tear it up , you are only out a dollar.

Most normies would think they’re so kewl with a 2AA Mag or LedLenser, so not to worry.

Whut’s that keychain light that blinks in a whole buncha colors, a Rovyvon? Kids like shiny things, kinda like squirrels.

I like shiny squirrels too! :sunglasses:

A cheap headlamp or maybe a aaa twisty would probably be your best bet but something with aux lights and a muggle mode would be more fun.
