My first successful mod!

I purchased a HD2010 from Tmart and luckily received one with a East092 direct drive driver. I liked it so much that I ordered another but wasn’t as fortunate this time around and received the East092B version with low amps on high. So I decided to mod this lil guy.

First thing was to find a driver that I felt comfortable adding 7135 chips to…with plenty of space for my shaky unstable hands. I chose this generic driver from FastTech.

I then added this
copper ring for the bigger driver to be press fit in.

I practiced on a spare driver adding 7135’s as I’m not that great at soldering yet and here are the results on the good driver.

Excuse the mess…it was a long night!

Success after much cursing and sweating! I added 4 7135s.

Yes 4.3a! I didn’t blow anything up or kill the driver!

Some beam shots, with my Galaxy S3s camera.

The finished Product.
Added a XML-2 emitter and I also did some minor mods like changing the switch boot, added thicker o-rings and added thermal compound to the threads of the pill,
but I’m just stoked that this thing works and is as bright and beautiful as it is. Mission accomplished!

This is a great place to learn…and I hope to mod many more torches in the future

Edit: Pics should be fixed.

Is it Just me? Dont see any pictures but anyhow grats.

I can’t see any pictures either.

Looks like a pic tries to come up but then doesn’t. Now you fixed it! Loooooking goooood!

But now some of the pics don’t come up…

The pic of the DVM wasn’t working but looks good now

Nice mod it looks like it has a great beam.

Pictures seem to be ok now. For me at least. They do take a bit to load.
Congratz on it working out nicely.

Thanks! Ya the beam vs the direct drive HD2010 is a bit more floody…but still bright as heck!

dbramm

If you have a lux meter, what do you have at 1 meter?

… My soldering station is like part of a cardboard box and some needlenose.

Wow ! Good job

Great job!

Your soldering station looks eerily similar to mine, except I use the kitchen table…

My wife doesn’t like it too much

Congratulations! I see you have the most important tool for modding, a magnyifying glass! Also if you take about 5-6” of Romex, bend it into a u-shape, and push it into the wand holder, the stock Yihua stand works much better.

Before

After

tivo sorry I don’t have a lux meter…YET!

Rufusbduck - That’s a great Idea! I’ve been using the holder on my helping hands as the stock was a PITA as it was always falling or not holding properly.
