So I finally was able to figure out the overly complex and convoluted COBRA (and knowing is half the battle) braid! :disappointed:
When I bought my kayak a couple of weeks ago, I had plans to make a paracord leash for my paddle, and any other gear I might need. While I had my paracord out, I decided to finally learn how to braid some. I made a quick trip to WalMart to pick up some paracord buckles and a couple of small sections to go with my existing 100ā rolls I had purchased from the SupplyCaptain. (Apparently the SupplyCaptain isnāt dealing in as much paracord these days; he doesnāt have as much variety in his inventory, and the more interesting options are sold out.)
I ended up with a small roll of regular camo, safety orange, and black w/GITD, in addition to the SC multicolor rolls I already had.
Check out my highly-customizable paracord braid loom here! With built-in ruler even! A couple of carabiners and a couple of machine screws and I was ready to goā¦
First actual creation finishedā¦ Yeah, not much, and the final diameter is a bit too big for me, but I bet I can find somebody to give it toā¦ :sunglasses:
LOLā¦ No, not for saleā¦ If you want to buy one, maybe hit up Old Lumens to see if he can build one for you. Iām just playing around for now.
So whereās the best place to buy Paracord from now? SupplyCaptain was the go-to the last time around but his stock and selection are all low.
FiveStarcord is down for maintenanceā¦ until 1/2/15ā¦ :person_facepalming:
The $7.50 shipping kills it for Paracord Galaxy. I doubt that I could get away with ordering the 15 items to get free shippingā¦
I want to get some of the desert-tan/rattlesnake pattern cords:
ā¦and the reflective Hi-Viz cord:
Iām also digging the fish and fire cord; Iāve never seen that beforeā¦ a strand of fishing line and a strand of tinder included in the core for the ultimate survival braceletā¦
Oh simple answer. dhgate.com I think its $~5 dollars for 500 feet of the real stuff, hundreds of colors. Iāve bought a lot from them. Shipping time is about 2 weeks to US. I think the shipping is free too.
@ the OP, really nice! Looks like you got it down right. Nothing to it, once you do it!
Congratulations on another hobby!
You can get cord via Amazon with free ship, not Prime, just the standard free ship. $25 or over and it's free, so you can use some place like Paracord Galaxy for the names of the different colors, then go searching on Amazon for the cord. Just a thought. China is always the cheapest, if you don't mind waiting and hoping the right color comes. I have had the wrong ones come after a long wait.
I stopped doing my stuff, as it didn't pay for itself. I just do a couple things for the wife now. Too many people making them too cheaply, like China. Flashlights still pay better, even if they do not pay much, LOL.
If youād like less bulk, find someone whoās changing out their mini-blinds. Iāll even do the change-outs if someone wants ā itās really easy.
The cords that control them are the same essential structure as paracord but theyāre much thinner.
I wish I could remember in which hardware store I found this hank of mini-blind repair cord; itās way too thick for mini-blinds ā sort of a micro-paracord.
Nice work w/ your first paracord project, love the Miami Hurricane colors. If you really get into braiding check out Bored Paracord on youtube. He has vid instructions for more braids than you can imagine. Iāve made custom matching survival bracelets and collars from family / friends and their dogs.
BTW, check the ācord listings for ā7 strandā inner cord construction. Iāve found some ācord being sold that does not have the twisted inner strands, instead itās filled w/ untwisted cord filament. The braid results are bulky, uneven and too thick.
Camo, neon green/black, and my first two-tone, day-glo orange w/ black GITD.
I actually do have a purpose for making so manyā¦ My plan is to make an assortment of these, so everyone in the family can get one as a stocking stuffer for Christmas.
