My flashlight beamshots

So I got a few shots of my light in action, hope you enjoy them :)

PS-Since I'm new here I haven't made a topic showing the build process of my custom "LightCanon Flashlight" (misspelled on purpouse) but I'll get around to it in the future. For now, you get beamshots.

1) 950m distance, target is a radio antenna at the top of a mountain.

Day shot:

Night shot:

Zoomed in even though my camera is bad you can see that the antenna is well lit up, and the red dot is the signal light on the left antenna.

Distance measurement (includes vertical displacement):

Target 2 is a metal cross on a mountain, 300m distance.

Day shot:

Night shot:

Hope you guys liked it :) It is a lot of fun pointing this thing at mountains!

Wow… thats impressive, especially with all that ambient / stray light pollution.

Would love to see your build pics. thanks for sharing

 thank you!

Astonishing!

Completely messed up bro (in the most respectfully positive way)

That beam almost looks substantial enough to walk on. Amazing light.

haha  thanks all!
It is a sick beam I have to agree.

The ambient light could be simulated with a wireless flash, photographers trick
But you photos seem to be shot with something cheaper than my 550€ flash for DLSR

But if this is a normal 100W bulb the flashlight is impressive

Yeah I don’t use an expensive DSLR :C just a point and shoot, takes ok photos but horrible video.
Got any recommendations for low light camera to take videos with for $500 or less?

Also, what do you mean 100w bulb?
The street light to the left?
Aren’t those usually a lot more than 100W?

What reflector / optic are you using?
How come theres so much stray light bleeding through the host body?

thanks

It’s a 100mm aspheric lens with a wavien collar over the LED.
The lens has a really long focal distance, so even though the wavien collar only lets 60 degrees of light out, there is still a ton that does not hit the lens.

I have blackout paper at home that I need to add to the inside of the light to block the spill from showing through the vents and PVC.

550$, you can get sony A6000+ sel50f18
good in low light, but it’s fixed len

Cool… I remember reading about waiven collar designs a few years ago.

Is it good because it has a large sensor?
I’ll look into it, thanks
Fixed lens isn’t a problem for me.

Yeah, it really works, does about 150-200% improvement, unfortunately wavien has gone dark.
Anyone looking for collars now needs to get an electroformed reflector or something like that.

Look for Sony Alpha 5000 or so
But big sensor doesnt need to be better if the lens aperature is low for compact size

They use the same sensor size than a DSLR that is APSC

Also 1 inch sensor cameras like Canon G7X are really good, as they have a really big aperatur for the sensors size

Cool, thanks, adding those to my list of ones to look at reviews of

The Sony performs really great if you put a fixed lens with big aperature over the stock zoom

35 or 50mm f1.8 is a great lens but not a wide angle

Wide angle big aperature lenses are really expensive

Really amazing light. Would love to see some build pics. Also, +1 on the Sony A6000, great camera.
