I preparing to design a new LED for newly designed 14500 flashlight. Could you please share your preferences for the color temperature and type of LED?
How about long-range LED?
SFT40 5000K is a good choice.
We’re very glad to have you here, EdolucLight!
Yeah, SFT40 for long-range, though I prefer warm white.
If you’re willing to give up some throw the SFT70 is also nice though most BLF members probably like the SFT40 more.
Hello!
SFT40 or SFT70 is more suitable for use in 18650 and 18350 flashlights. 14500 cannot showcase its optimal performance. Recently, I’ve been testing a new LED, SFT12, which might be a promising alternative.
At least one with no green tint, and a well-known emitter instead of random unknown Chinese one without datasheet would be good.
Okay, good to know!
It would also be great to have an alternative that is NW and high-CRI, such as the 519a in 4500k, as well as CW in the 5700k variant, assuming your SFT-12 is anything like the one that was tested by Koef3.
Personally, I would prefer the 519a, dedoming the 5700k version of the 519a gives a lot more throw too, just a bit less than an XP-L HI when accounting for the output loss of high-CRI. Dedoming also gives it a neutral CCT (around 4200k in a reflector) with an often-desirable rosy tint.
When it comes to 14500 flashlights, I think the 519A or XPL-HI are great choices depending on your needs. Personally, I’ve bought a lot of 14500 flashlights, and I always go for the Nichia 4000K without a second thought.
Yes,Nichia 519A and XPL 6500K is a good chioce.
Yes it is.
