Got my first SC31 pro this week. Bought a 18350 and used the short tube from the SP 40. Couldn’t do my traditional washer mod to the switch because of size and space limitations so made a wire ring and glued it on instead. It has become my new work EDC. The ring allows me to locate the switch intuitively and protects it from pocket activation. I wish Sofirn would start making them like that. I love having that many lumens in such a small pocket friendly form factor. I have to get a low power 1 amp wall adapter to keep the charge current down for the 18350. Tried LB’s lap top idea but apparently mine puts out 1.5 amps, still high.
They are good lights, with the short tube they make the new 16340 kinda irrelevant as the sp31p put out double the lumens. I much prefer the warmer 5k over the 6.4k tint. Sofirn sell magnetic tail caps really cheap too but they lack the lanyard hole.
how long is that w the 18350 tube?
very nice EDC light.
89.5mm with standard tail cap, and 86mm with magnetic tail cap.
Love this sucker….
See if you can find an old ereader wall wart. I had 2 nooks, both had a 700mAh chargers.
pretty but fw3a with 18650 is only 4 mm longer
(i have an astrolux S1 ( i think ) with 18350 tube, same thing, i like the light, but the 18650 has about 4x the energy)
for me - it;s like, ok if i want really small, this isn;t it, i would rather use a AAA light and just give up power and energy for super small
this isn;t that much smaller, to make up for the missing energy and power, to me…
i just like small enough, but powerful (FW3A), or really small (AAA tool or something)
i this sofirn light, not using TIR makes the optics longer, and the S1 has a tail switch
this light should be shorter still, because it has a side switch
also makes me wonder why the FW3A people didn;t go with side switch
would have solved the ‘’tube connection issues’’ to the switch
and made it 4-5mm shorter too
…also makes me wonder why the FW3A people didn;t go with side switch …
Maybe so when the head of the light reaches 1000 degrees you wouldnt have to touch it?
Love this sucker….
glad youre having fun
how much does it weigh, with 18350 battery inside?
fw3a with 18650 is only 4 mm longer
how much does it weigh with 18650 inside?
.
for comparison, the SC21 w 16340 inside, weighs 55 grams
an 18650 alone, weighs 45 grams…
thats almost double the weight of an 18350 battery
imo carry weight (battery included), is a more informative metric for comparing light “size”,
than differences in length…
18350 just doesn’t have enough umph for me.
glad youre having fun how much does it weigh, with 18350 battery inside?
Uuhhhmm….less than with the 18650 in it?
Sorry, no scale.

Depends on the laptop. Unnegotiated usb is supposed to max out at 500mA (fans, LED lights, other “dumb” doodads), and only allow higher currents if negotiated first.
As you found out, a lot of usb ports are “generous” and will pretty much let anything suck down as much current as it can stand.
Most old “lipstick” powerbanks were like that. If I started charging my old tablet with one, the connector would get scorchingly hot and the powerbank would get nice and toasty warm, too. Wellp, good for a quick pick-me-up if the tablet’s running on vapors, but not too healthy for either the connector or powerbank/cell.
Some old crappy usb wall-warts were cheap enough to only put out 500mA, just by being undersized.
Good size for an EDC, although I prefer 18650 due to significantly higher capacity. How’s the tint with the SC31? My EDC needs to have good tint these days else they are donated or just not used.
I am not a good one to ask about tint. Looks ok to me though.

Where did you get the short tube?
I like it!
And the button mod you comment you have the washer model or what’s it called.
To put them on the ones with side button.
Thanks!
Edit: This?
The ring I used around the switch was just a piece of my wife’s crafting wire. Wrap it around a round object of the desired diameter and glue it on with goop.

Perfect, I already have it saved.
I’m referring to the photo I saw a few days ago, someone (I thought it was you) showed a flashlight with a nicely placed ring but I haven’t found what it is, maybe a wooden screw washer etc.

I found them!!!
Yup, that’s them, finish washers. If I remember correctly it was a #10. Home Depot or Lowes or Amazon.
