My VERY FIRST MOD :-D

I am a freshly infected flashaholic and did my first modification today!
Of course it was too simple for you guys to even mention it but nevertheless…
I replaced the emitter of my Olight S15 titanium with a XM-L2 U3 1C on noctigon copper and it worked at first try
The only thing is that the noctigon PCB is nearly 1mm thicker than the original one, so the drop in is too long now and the bezel didn’t fit anymore. I simply added an o-ring - now it fits.

So everything is fine (I think) and the output got subjectively a little brighter and way less yellow than the original.

And excuse my English please!

Good work! So, you prefer cool white over warm white? Cool. (I tend to put epoxy or glue in the empty space formed from a thicker star if the ‘O’ ring doesn’t do its job but, most times it’s usually in the right place. )

Good start! Now you are hooked, and looking at tint! You will never be the same. BTW, I love those awful yellowish tints!

Welcome!

Congrats WolfA and welcome to the forum!

The first mod is the best and you should be proud it worked right out the gate. Looking forward to hearing about your future mods.

Why does my picture not show??

I did have a look
, but something is wrong with my link…

Its a good feeling when you mod a light and hit the go button that it still works. Well done.

Fixed the image WolfA

Thanks nitroz!
What was wrong?

Well done. Once you gain more experience you may want to file the reflector down a little so the bezel screws down all the way, that’s what i do but they are very easily damaged so a couple practice runs is recommended before trying on a nice light.

Welcome the addiction. Soon you’ll be building your own triple. This hobby is an absolute blast!

I just did some tailcap current measurements and compared it to before the mod. It’s a little different

Low-mid-high @2Eneloop black:
BEFORE: 23-210-840 mA
AFTER: 21-192-891 mA

How can that be? Less current at mid but more Amperes at high?

Servus Wolf(gang?)!

nice to have other austrians here!

i hope to host a flashaholics meeting this spring…

Griasdi Martin M4DM4X!

There’s no “gang” in my name it’s just Wolf. Rather unusual but that’s what I’ve got

If your meeting will be held around the Vienna area I’ll be there for sure…

Very good first mod, it shows that you are not afraid to touch an expensive flashlight!

In order to get the bezel tight (I would still want that in the end :stuck_out_tongue: ), you might consider sometime to 1) sand the Noctigon board thinner, tedious process with serious chance to destroy the led while at it, or 2) start learning to unsolder and solder leds so you can use the original ledboard for the new emitter.

Keep up the good work!

Great first mod….

The new LED may have a different forward voltage (efficiency) giving you the different readings you posted…

Thanks for all the advice folks
I couldn’t hope that anybody was interested in such a small mod…

The interest is not in the mod but in the moder
