Nanjg 105c changing modes

Got a Convoy C8 the other day. It has a Nanjg 105c driver in it (2 group version), when I got it I checked all the modes and they all worked fine. I’ve had the light to pieces (unsoldered the star, took the driver out) just to have a look inside the light and after putting the light back together the light only has one mode (looks like high). The light is now either on or off, no other modes. Can anyone explain this?

Hi,

Assuming that you have a meter, check for a short from the emitter - lead to ground.

I don’t have a meter but noticed a little bit of solder was connected from the negative on the star to the pill… I assume this is what caused the mode change?

Sounds like a short.

Edit

Yes, negative from the led bridged to the pill will bypass the driver.

You’ve just created the Nanjg-105c Single-Mode Mod.

Been there, done that, a couple of times. I actually like it, for certain applications.

As ohaya wrote, take it apart again & check your connections. Or enjoy the simplicity of it…

Does that mean the light would be direct drive?

Careful, with the short, its now “direct drive”. The LED can overheat unless it has good heatsinking (copper notigon, sinkpad star).

I guess if it bypasses the driver the low voltage cut-off won’t work either?

Yeah thanks Halo, I will remove the bit of solder

Yes, low voltage cut-off won’t work. Driver is just totally bypassed.
Nanjg 105c drivers actually regulate through the negative. The positive is passed right through the Nanjg 105c from the battery to the led.
