Need help converting 220v LED bulb to 127v.

Hello guys, I have received an order from Aliexpress for a variable CCT LED Bulb with a 2.4GHz remote control but the seller sent me a 220v only bulb. It should have been 85v to 265v but ok. Got a refund for it but still would like to use them.

Is there any way of swapping something to make it work?

Thank you in advance.

This board uses a BP8501 regulator, the datasheet says it should work from 85V to 265V AC, so the chip itself should work just fine on 127V. The only difference I’m seeing is that this board is using a half bridge rectifier, while the application circuit of the BP8501 is using a full bridge rectifier, and this can make a difference depending on the load and of course the regulator IC behavior. If the bulb isn’t working properly on 127V you can try to stuff a small full bridge rectifier on this board.

1 Thank

Hmm and how would I go about adding a full bridge rectifier to this already busy board? I thought that, perhaps, only changing a capacitor and or resistor would solve the problem. but adding anything in is probably way more complicated.

Looking closer it seems there’s already a full bridge rectifier hidden under the yellow capacitor.

So, the board circuit looks pretty much like the application circuit, it should have worked as it is.

The datasheet says that the output voltage can be changed (pin 6 bridged to pin 8 for 3v3 output, pin 6 bridged to pin 5 for 5V output), but doesn’t specify anything about anything else, output inductor value, output capacitor value, nothing. There might be something else that can be done to make it work, but it’s hard to say only by looking at the pictures. Some probing is necessary.

Well thank you for your help. But it seems this is out of my expertise.
Probably not worth it.
Cheers
