I am in corrections and my flashlight broke. We use Maglites, but I would like to change to another brand.
I am looking since two days now for a good light in the range $30-$50, but I have no glue which one is good. I was looking at the Ultrafire 502b and read some reviews and came to this forum.
Can someone recommend me a good light? It should be bright, rechargeable and reliable.
What do you need the light to do? Do you need a light that has a lot of flood or a light that throws a long ways? Do you need one with long run times? Do you want a smaller light with a nice tint? It’s really hard to suggest a light without knowing your needs.
As others have mentioned we need a bit more information in order to guide you in the right direction. If you had maglites, how & why did they break?? What is the intended use? Any type of battery required???
As for not having any glue, I would look into this product, it works great!
The Convoy lights seem to be very solid. I personally have the S8 and it’s been a great little light that blows away any incan Maglite 3C, 3D, 3D, etc.
I recommend the $29.82 Convoy L4, this one comes with the latest XM-L2 U2 1A emitter, which is a nice cool white color and you can find the Convoy L4 review here. It has a nice streamline look and is a high quality flashlight. Also has a rear and side switch, with memory mode. Lastly, it has a very nice balance of flood and throw, and it is belt holster certified! Love the nice square knurling as well.
That new XinTD V5 is what I’d recommend, with the XP-G2 on a large Noctigon that’s direct soldered to the brass pill you’re not likely to find a more robust reliable light for $30. In the event that it’s output is not sufficient, which I doubt, it can be modded for power gains fairly easily.
I’d don’t own a Convoy (hope to soon) but aside from this forum I hear rave reviews about them. My understanding is that they are a solid product especially for the price.
Now I have 6 of them. Every one well made, very nice features, and my latest, the M1 is a very pleasant surprise with the way it’s built and ease of assembling from a DIY perspective.
Good solid well made lights that don’t break the bank.
I got my first Convoy, the C8, to be able to use Ryan’s copper pill. Then I got a second C8 with Bucks 8 ounce copper pill/heat sink. Then an S6, and shortly after that an L4. Comfy’s mod to the S6 grabbed my attention so I purchased one of those from Richard as well. And then the M1 caught my eye. I have one more of Ryan’s copper pills, so I guess there is another C8 in my future.
Yep, convoy seems to be the best quality budget line of lights. Seen several brands copying or using their factory 2nd’s, but can’t beat convoy’s price. They look great too.
As for the holster… I’m almost positive someone has recommended one here, but I can’t seem to find it. Hopefully someone has that info available.
I have this one . Well made and fits Convoy L4 nicely. Has a battery pocket as well.
The only downside is that metal snaps aren’t covered on the inner side and can probably scratch anodising. I’ve covered them with velcro strap on mine.
BG has Convoy L4 on sale from $24.55 with different tints
