Hi all it has been a while since I’ve been on here ,but I could use some help finding either AA or AAA powered torch for a member of my Church it really doesn’t matter if it runs on 1 or multiple batteries, he would like 3 mode low, high, and strobe of course he wants bright as possible and under 10.00$ and if you know of one Please tell where and if possible who has best price , thanks all.
Under $10 makes it difficult.
( under $15 or $20 really multiplies the options)
The Sipik is cheap and durable—but does not have the modes requested.
The sk 68 clone does have high, low and strobe and can be obtained for less than $6. So it fits the bill of the OP. I don’t think there are any candidates for this kind of stiff requirement.
low, high and strobe and <$10.
Lots more choices in the $15-$20 range—this one has the requested modes
Solarstorm SC-01 AA —its $15.xx at FastTech
from Fasttech with 3 modes for $ 5.47 -5% BLF discount
works with Nimh, Alkaleaks or 14500's.
Yeah this one from FT is good. Good tint (relatively). Good output as opposed from the one from myled.com.
My recomendation… solarforce sc01
I like the SK68…but the Solar Storm SC01 is right there with it…soooo much smaller
edit to correct…solar storm
You mean solarstorm
Yup Yup…solar storm…
+1 for the SC01.
I’ll look 8 to the solar force and unikfire and I’m apologize for the ridiculous low budget let’s say 15.00.$ is max thanks again all .

Is there some SK68 flashlight without strobe? I’d be getting one or two too. Ideally, 2 modes (lo-hi) would be great.
No unfortunately they either come 1 mode (off-on) or 3 mode w/ strobe…if you could disable strobe the Hi>Lo would be great
Sipiks only come with 1 mode whereas the other clones come with either 1 or 3 modes.
I pick the 3 mode ones since in the low mode you can have enough juice to power it for 3 hours+ in a power failure.
Emitter is better the q5 or the xre2 for a AA powered light?
Just talking with another member who said his favorite AA zoomie is this light ...
The Q5 is a bin ...Meaning it's a brightness level and it could be used to talk about any emitter . xre / xpe / xpg / xpe 2 or xpg2
I'm not even sure they make an xre2 ..? the xpe2 and xpg2 are the more efficient updated versions of their predecessors
the assumption if it's not stated in zoomies is they are using xre's or xpe emitteres since they work best with an aspheric lens in flood to throw lights
A q5 would be a little brighter than a q3 and an r5 would be a little brighter or more efficient than the q5 ....<< sometimes you can assume that the higher bins are also cooler tints ...i'm sure that would only be an assumption ... but loooking at it in the opposite way lets just say a neutral xre is almost assuradly going to be a lower bin ... because you sacrifice lumens for tint .
on cheaper / budget lights lots of times you're getting less info from the seller so it seems to me to be much more of a gamble and guessing game as to what emitter you're really going to get ..truth is it really doesn't matter all that much..and not at all to normal people . Only crazies like ourselves hold these vendors feet to the fire about exactly what bin it is .... Tough for a poor guy in china who also sells faceplates for smart phones, hats ,hello kitty slippers ,dog toys and eyebrow tweezers too .
The assumption should be that they are xre emitters .. some newer zoomies are using xpe .. both seem to work well .
Q5 is a newer emitter with smaller die which = more efficient
