New: Anyone try the Convoy S2 in Titanium yet?

I’m a sucker for Titanium. Convoy makes excellent stuff, and at @ $40+ this is less than half the price of the Emissar Titanium light. Anyone have it yet?

Looks interesting.
I wonder what the Titanium alloy is.
I won’t pay the premium for Titanium flashlights, but I think that’s a reasonable price considering how much Titanium you get. :+1:

It just launched today, it’ll be a few weeks before anyone has it in hand. I bought the copper S2 but not the TI one yet. Titanium isn’t great for thermal properties, but that won’t stop folks here from building it into a hotrod triple or something.

I wonder if Simon used that copper pill from the copper S2+ in the titanium one. That’d probably help the thermal issues vs the brass pill.

As much as I like shiny things, especially made of Ti, this one is too hot for me. Literally.

I tried putting one in my shopping cart.

It came out like 2 seconds ago.

If it isn’t a hard alloy like grade 5, it will be soft and take some damage when dropped.

If somebody paid the $53 to get it shipped UPS they might have it by the end of next week. Anybody?

I was surprised that the Ti was only $3 more than the copper S2+s!

It looks pretty spectacular to me and I’m looking forward to adding it to my collection. :grinning:

I didn’t know the copper S2+s came with copper pills. The hosts I got from the scratch and dent sale last year came with brass pills.

Super excited for this! I’ve been bugging Simon for this constantly, so when he finally caved and said yes to me I lost my shit! I was order number 2, and the moment the stonewashed comes out I’ll instantly buy that too!

My Scratch and Dent Copper S2+ also came with a Brass Pill.
However, I can confirm that at least some of the Copper S2+ come with a Copper pill:

Woah I didn’t know you could get retaining rings for the driver side of the pill. Is that the same size as in the tailcap? Or are they different threads? Does Simon sell those separately?

Simon does not sell (anymore) separate pills and/or retaining rings. Kaidomain still does. LINK
The pill named S2 is the short pill that teams up with the long reflector in the Convoy S2.
The pill named K12 is the long pill that teams up with the short reflector in the Convoy S2+.
You’ll also notice they are selling separate retaining rings on the same page.

Caution: some time ago Simon has changed the threads on the S2+. Those don’t interchange.
I know the first edition Copper S2+ has the “old” threads, the second edition has the new threads.
I have mostly older S2(+ s). So I am in the clear, but I cannot guarantee any of your lights.
Maybe the inner thread of the pill, and the outer thread of the ring, stayed the same as before.

EDIT: the tailcap is quite another story: it has a left threaded retaining ring

If you ask them on Aliexpress directly they will sell you rings and pills

Most of the S2+ come with a driver retaining ring now.
The 6×7135 & 8×7135 drivers didn’t because the ring would crush the 7135 chips, so they solder the drivers in on those.

Very cool. All my S2+'s are older ones (I don’t buy new ones just reuse the host) so none of them had driver retainer rings. Maybe I’ll ask Simon to throw a couple in on my next order.

They could use a retaining ring, but it would have to be thinner like this (soldering is too permanent for me):

I thought the copper pills were sold separately and there were issues with rectangular vs square threads? Here’s what I remember: Copper S2+ limited edition

Regardless, the weight of a copper S2+ is pretty heavy, let alone with a copper pill and a copper spacer. But for the ultimate triple, that would be the way to go!

1 Thank

Yeah, I much prefer a retaining ring vs soldering.
