Also the new coming model H150 headlamp, will be ready next week.

As far as English speaking customers Skilhunt sounds a whole lot better than that group of letters you’ve put together!

How do you pronounce that or what does it stand for (mean)?

4 Thanks

ES [es] K TE [ti]
It is pronounce as SKT. (Or when you pronounce it, you can omit the two E’s like parentheses.) . It is a shorter of SKILHUNT, and we will be conducting a prize-based campaign to solicit slogans for this new trademark.

OK thanks!

I want to be the first entry on the slogan campaign…

Name it “any thing” but ESKT(backwards E)

Customers won’t relate to that very well; It’s just not recognizable or memorable. You probably do OK with French customers with that!

My opinion - it is horrible. Sorry, but it is what it is. “Skilhunt” was readable and recognizable, this feels simply like a random set of letters and is highly unlikely to be remembered even if someone wanted to.

3 Thanks

Don’t worry, we will still hold “SKILHUNT” for a long time. :grinning:

ESKTE? E-Skate?

Sorry to say this but if I were the brand manager, I would not use that name. It is hard to pronounce. It doesn’t seem to have any meaning.

2 Thanks

Just my $0.02, but ESKTE is horrible, SkilHunt was much much better.

When I read the OP my first reaction was to check the calendar to make sure April 1st was far away, as that’s so bad it sounds more like a prank…

2 Thanks

The H150 looks great!

The new brand, not so much. I never thought Skilhunt was a great name for a flashlight, but it’s an invented word that makes some sense to people who speak English so it’s not a bad brand name. ESKTE is not pronounceable in English, and abbreviations longer than three letters are awkward to spell out in conversation.

I think the best brand names include something to indicate what the product is:

  • Streamlight
  • Olight
  • Zebralight
  • Acebeam
  • Maglite

If I had never heard of any of those companies, I could guess that they making lighting products of some kind just from the names.

I know from experience that introducing a new name does not come cheap. So it has to be a well documented decision. It might even involve a survey in a test panel. I’m afraid that did not happen in this case. Unless we’re talking about a larger customer base beyond our visual range.
A new name: easy peasy. Until a name that is tough and reliable in one country leads to an angry phone call from another country (you just called my mother a what?). There are specialized agencies to consult.

eSkate?

Es Katie?

LOL!

Suggestion: TLFKAS.

The Lights Formerly Known As Skilhunt.

Yes it sounds made up I thought it was going to be one of those wild names they put on generic cheap lights and then sell under many different goofy brand names.

Stick with Skilhunt, or think of something else. I actually associated the Skilhunt brand as next-tier flashlight company, separate from the masses, though not up with the best/priciest.

Now it’s too late to change the name. The H150 has it lasered onto its head, they have registered a website and probably also a trademark. Now we have to live with their decision. And I’ve seen worse.

Also keep in mind that Skilhunt has used the SKT brand in the past, so it isn’t unexpected to build up on it.

Skilhunt naming is fine i think you should leave it at that, if you want a new name why not use both names with different lines of lights? Make headlamps under the skilhunt branding and hand held flashlights under ESKTE.

I feel the naming ESKTE will scare away foreign buyers, the name is hard to say and it has no meaning in English.

I like the Skilhunt name. And like others, I’m also not really into “ESKTE”. I remember when XTAR came with a new brand name, “Allmaybe”. That was just terrible…

OTOH things went pretty well with: Sunwayled > Sunwayman. Supbeam > Acebeam. LuckSun > WildTrail.

The only reason I can think of as to why they did this is because they somehow lost the “skillhunt” trademark.

So I did a search on the USPTO - lo and behold: Trademark Search

As it turns out, skillhunt hasn’t actually owned the trademark for “Skillhunt” since 2017…

According to the USPTO, apparently they didn’t properly complete the application process after their initial filing in 2016: Trademark Status & Document Retrieval

I guess they just went ahead using the name anyway, and it just caught up with them. I guess recently someone must have sent them a cease and desist, and they were forced to transition away from it.

Skilhunt made sense as a name, and was easy to find - if I verbally recommended it to someone, chances are they’d find it, maybe search with two ls first but if you do that you still find Skilhunt products anyway, google literally goes Did you mean: Skilhunt? If you search for “skillhunt”.

ESKTE sounds like one of those generic-brand $25 “250,000lm ultra power tactical” zoomies from Amazon in comparison.
