Have had a Fenix L1D a few years that goes everywhere with me.
Wanted a bigger and brighter flashlight and ended up with a Q5 emitter one like this had it for over a year and a half and was really happy with the light for the money…… but as we all know… wanted more lumens.
So I then purchased a flashlight with the XM-L emitter; this flashlight a few weeks ago. I was running it off the 3 AAA batteries and was a bit disappointed that it was not much brighter then the Q5 flashlight I had. The XM-L had the ability to on 18650 batteries.
So I ended up getting this charger and batteries to see if it made a difference with this flashlight. It sure did.
Looking around here for the very short time before I made this post, it seems I should have done more homework on the batteries before buying more. I should have 4 of these showing up at my door in the next day or 2.
Sounds like most people here do not care for Ultrafire batteries and not even sure these have any protection in them, which may be a bad thing…… Live and learn…. that’s why I’m here on the forums now.
The last flashlight I have on order currently and may replace my trusty Fenix L1D is this one.
I own Armytek predator xp-g2 and use rechargeable unprotected18650 Li-Ion Panasonic batteries. And I don’t worry because there is built in protection in the flashlight :bigsmile:
The last light you arrived at in your post is a very nice one indeed (the HD 2011) and worthy of replacing the LD01.
Zoom lights with an XM-L led just do not impress much unless driven at high amps, which those zoom lights usually are not build for.

(and stop buying ***fire batteries, but buy some nice protected Panasonics instead for hardly more money, our favorite cheap-but-reliable seller is Fasttech.com at the moment)
Welcome . And toss the Ultrafire Batteries like a Hand Grenade. Get Fasttech Panasonics with Protection, so your Pocket Torch doesn’t blow your Privates off. Do some Research on safe Handling and Charging the Lithium Batteries also First.
Hello elgecko…im using a cheapo ultrafire 18650 atm so far so good lol…but after hearing many complains about it, i dont really dare to over-under discharge it anymore…

I did read around quite a bit. Lots of useful info, and some confusing…more research and I’ll get it all figured out.
Found out I have some chargers that will work on the Li-ion batteries. I have two Accucell 6 chargers I use for my plane and helicopter batteries. (So I do have handling knowledge of Lipos.) I decided I did not want to make a charging station using the Accucell charger and did a little research on the Nitecore i4 Intellicharger V2 charger and seems that it gets good reviews and priced right to not hassle with the Accucel charger. Currently not planning on needing a bunch of 81650 batteries so the 4 port charger will work great for me.

The Ultrafires arrived today…. the company messed up. I ordered 4 batteries and received 2 packages of 4 batteries…
Must mean the batteries are that terribly bad the company is sending extras out to get rid of them.
I may make a cable up to attach to the Accucell charger I have to determine the true mAh.
IIRC I read that 3100 or 3600 mAh cells are all the largest that is made currently??? If I tested them and made a stink about the rated mAh on the wrapper I would most likely get my money back and I could purchase some better batteries.
This light that I bought here; I really like the looks, size and brightness of. Wish it had real glass.
What light can you people recommend that is inexpensive around the same size, shape, real glass, runs on the 81650 battery, xm-l led (I know that the 1800 lumen is a bunch of BS. IIRC the xm-l can not be driven that bright.)
Edit: Fasttech looks to have the same light I bought off ebay. listed at 680 lumen.
Oh one last thing.
Is it best to store Li-ion batteries around 3.8V like Lipo packs?
Whats the best way to get it to the proper voltage?

When I started not too long ago, I thought that I’d not have anything to do with 18650 batteries… just 14500s (AA size Li) and 10440 (AAA size Li). But, that was about 4 weeks ago, and now I ended up with > 20 assorted 18650s.
Seems like getting “addicted” to batteries is almost as bad as (and expensive as) for lights.
