New generation of Osram Oslon Black infrared leds, Edit: another major upgrade, link in post#14

It is very powerful even at 1.5 A if you wanna go higher DTP MCPCB is must.

In combination with good night vision equipment it will visually throw further than any led(even de domed and overdriven) in same host.

Night vision(ccd, cmos sensors) is superior to human eye perception.

looks an interesting LED and funnily enough a freind was just asking me about making him a new IR spotter.

RS has them bare, but iv no idea what PCB they would fit on

I’m looking at these two LEDs at Mouser.
SFH 4716AS
SFH 4715AS
So basically the main difference between them is the viewing angle?
SFH 4715AS having 90º and the SFH 4716AS having 150º

I can’t find any info on what bin Mouser carries but any other difference I am missing?

Yes, I have not looked into infrared leds lately, but the 90º ones have a higher and more curved silicon dome that focusses te light more than the 150deg ones.

Appreciate the info djozz!
Sorry one more question.
Are these Osrams compatible with your typical XPG Noctigon or would I need to find a special board?

These are Oslon Black leds, so they do not fully match the XP footprint but they do work fine on XP-boards (do not use a large amount of solder paste because you can not squeeze the excess out during reflow, like with true XP compatible leds). They also do not have a neutral thermal pad, instead the center pad is connected to led+ . In the one mod with these leds that I did I worked around it by glueing the Sinkpad board in with a generous amount of Arctic Alumina Adhesive, making sure that the board did not touch the flashlight pill anywhere.

Thank you djozz, that was very helpful!

Why no re-use this thread? Headline is still valid

Some new additions to the OSRAM IR Black family. Press release here.

In short: New 850 nm and 940 nm LEDs with more pulse power (was 3 A, now 5 A) and narrower beam (down to +/-25°). Should be great for IR zoom lights.
