Yesterday (Jan.16th) the guy from FedEx rang my doorbell and handed me a box with a SAOPRKLER V2a.
Haven’t had a chance to test it (yet) but the sand colored version sure looks and feels very good!
EDIT: The tracking site mentioned something about having to pay VAT en so, but the guy from FedEx said it’s OK, no pay.
Today (Jan. 29th) I got a bill from FedEx, asking me to pay for VAT and an advancement fee.
Thank you friend, when you have time you can give us a review.
I received the flashlight on January 18th, 2025.
I contacted Kage/SAOPRKLER that same day regarding a problem.
I wanted to try to work things out with Kage before posting anything publicly, unfortunately, Kage has not logged in since I messaged him and my patience has run out.
The problem that I have is that the flashlight will not turn on.
I removed the battery insulator and I tried three different 21700 cells, all fully charged.
The flashlight has a spring on one side, and that spring is not long enough for a 21700 cell.
There needs to be a total of two springs, or there needs to be one longer spring.
I do not have any 21750 cells, and I’m not interested in getting any.
Because the 21700 cell does not make contact at both ends at the same time, the light will not turn on.
(All 21700 cells that I have tried are too short for this flashlight.)
I just received a reply from Kage.
Apparently I was sent a prototype that only works with 21750 cells.
It sounds like Kage is going to work with me over this issue.
I would not call it a review, but I placed a couple of impressions/observations in THIS thread.
Cancelled my backing on this. Shady behavior doesn’t deserve to be supported.
Dear raccoon
Late reply, I am sorry for not replying to you in time; I have arranged the factory to resend the new parcel and deliver to DHL on Feb 1st, due to the product is made in Hong Kong, China, the Chinese New Year Holiday delayed the parcel; DHL accepted the parcel and didn’t send it to the US, recently on Feb 4th the US policy stops to receive parcels from China, it is delayed again; I checked the tracking from DHL today, it will take 3-5 days to deliver to you.
Tracking number: [REDACTED]
We are a company, we will not cheat you for a flashlight, the delay is my problem, I apologize.
This is starting to sound like a scam.
No, my friend; we are a compliant business and won’t cheat people out of a set of flashlights, the New Year’s holiday and policy impacts are going to affect the shipment of packages . If there are further updates, we’ll sync them to the message.
They are made in the mainland. Saying a flashlight is made in Hong Kong is as hilarious as saying a mango is grown in Alaska.
The delayed reply aside, I still want to know what this light has to do with ‘cyberpunk design language’ and ‘cyberpunk aesthetics’.
And still I am also interested what the name SAOPRKLER means…
The old bucks here may remember Sparkomatic from the old car stereo days of the late 70’s and most of the 80’s.
Used to sell that brand and made some good beer money in commissions.
We called it “Sparks and Static”
This Sparkler brand may be the current state of that
Yeah, but why not calling the brand SPRKLER? At least this would be much more recognizable.
The title says that it is now available.
That is different than being live on Kickstarter.
The following is from their Kickstarter page,
I don’t think it’s a scam. I think there is a lack of coordination and incompetent employees and possibly a media consultant who’s not really well versed in the product or media.
I also don’t think this is scam. At least not the scam we see every sometimes.
We see more like extremely clumsy marketing here. Just this screenshot with the red border on the Kickstarter page… hm, is this necessary? It still doesn’t seem particularly serious to me.
