New Skyray 3*T6 at Manafont, model 818

Was the flashlight pointed up? So it appears to me because the hotspot isn't centered in the photo.

Flashlight was pointed down slightly. I was in a hurry.

Bottom of the beam is on the floor.

I'm just guessing that the emitters are quite underdriven, at only 1.7A tailcap current, measured on high.

The beam you see, is pretty much as my eye sees it, as well.

Reminiscent of the el-cheapo blue emitters that hit the market some time ago.

Anyway, I'm writing-off skyray flashlights, and the distributor (begins with an "M") that handles them.

I'm not paying shipping back to "M", just to get another defective light. I've got an FandyFire STL-V6 thrower on its way. Hope it comes with no surprises.

Sent an email to "M" about my 2nd defective light, but no response yet.

Charles

Measured on 2*18650?

EDIT: Forget I asked

Ordered one the 26:th, shipped on the 27:th

Did you order the gray or black one? Maybe availability of the two is different?

Crap…
Just got mine in and it is the five-mode version, not the three-mode I ordered. With two TF Flames @ 4.16v I’m only getting 1.78A at the tailcap.
And I was really looking forward to this one…

LOVE THE BLANKET (of torches)! Enough to keep you nice and warm.

JS_280, welcome to the club of defective skyray lights...

Mine is exactly like yours, except it was DOA and I had to resolder a + connection on the battery wafer. 1.7A tailcap current on high here too. Does your flood portion look blue/purple like mine too?

Mine is also a 5-mode, with the crappy driver.

Seriously, I'm sorry you got a dud, as well. This just plain sucks, and this is 2 for 2 defective lights I've received from Manafont.

Bottom line, I got an email from Manafont about my 2nd defective light, and I've decided to not do business with this vendor again, or buy another skyray light.

Problem solved.

What was the issue in the e-mail, replacement was refused?. Sorry I'm not trying to get in where I'm not supposed but I'm ready for purchasing from Manafont

Yeah, the beam is quite "triangular" and has a nasty bluish-purple spill.

Thankfully my original SkyRay 3800 rev.2 was a good light. Pulled around 2.4A at the tailcap and had a nice white beam. However, I tend to be in the "if a hammer doesn't work, get a bigger hammer" category of people. I decided to take the driver out and ended up shearing off the LED leads and detaching them from the head of the light on accident...and I definitely don't have the skills to try and fix it...

Well that really sounds bad :( .. Maybe you can let us know what Manafont will say about this... But its very strange, why you all just have 1.7A and I have 3A+ .. Tested with two different DMM.. so I count out a "technical problem" .. I will do some further tests next week when I hopefully get the Wp2 charger Im waiting for :/

I keep posting everywhere that if someone has a dud with good emitters that they want to get out of their lives, I'll take one. (USA only though)

Rich

@Hikelite, my first 3800 failure was met with an "we'll send it back to the manufacturer for repair, then send it back to you" offer.

I declined that offer straight away, before another poster got the runaround on his shipping.

2nd 4000 issue, business as usual.

I'm keeping the 3800 as a donor for 3 xm-l single LED homebuilts.

I'm keeping the 2nd 4000 to give to a family member, as is, because of high shipping back to Manafont, and their customer service.

I hope my issues are just bad luck, but I'm done with it.

I feel the same - I am going back to ebay…too expensive out here in the ‘real’ World!

I have three lights (TrustFire 3xXML, dive light nad SR 818) coming in from Manafont and now I'm biting my nails.

I have an 818 and a dry 3x on the way to play with. I'm hoping both are good but already figuring I may have to driver swap the 818 based on discussions here.

Got a DRY and KD C8 underway with batteries and charger. So many things that could go wrong, bad thinking :)... But I only know about 1 bad KD C8 so far (Benckies). Also thrilled to see how bright the NW 4-mode DRY is, my best light is now 100 lumen (not verified) and i dunno if i expect too much of the DRY or whether I'll be blown away by it, also because i dunno wether the pictures posted here are under or overexposed compared to the human eye. It's 'significantly dimmer' than the CW 3-mode, but i think i won't notice as long as i don't have the CW 3-mode :d. Luckily im currently participating in a contest that keeps my mind busy from worrying about my travelling flashlights :)

Seems like 818 got a reflector and/or LED dome issue. I am guessing rejected LED batch. Something like the Ultrafire 5-mode P60 drop in SMO, and to some extent the 3-mode also. Of course all is ok if it draws 2.7-2.8A for say Trustfire flames (the light will draw lower like 2.5A on really good cells which do not sag much like Panasonic 2900/3100 XTAR 2600s)....but well it does not.

That said, my Trustfire TF-3T6 draws like 2.1A, and does 130 lux in a ceiling bounce, and the 2.5A SR3800 rev 0 does 160. These are 2 cell lights. I have since ripped out the dead driver and DDed the SR3800 with the aid of an extension from the Trustfire (I got the 3-cell version, luckily!) and get 250 lux in a ceiling bounce. LOL! In comparison, after 1 minute the ubiquitous Ultrafire 3-mode P60 drawing over 3.5 amps only does 42 lux in the ceiling bounce (which is 6 times less OTF lumens). Heh....

(the CW DRY 3-mode direct drive gets similar figures, 250 lux)

So the question is...has anyone been brave enough to pick up the Sky Ray 850 ("4300 lumen" model) yet? If so, any reviews? I'm really torn between picking up a DRY or testing my luck and trying the 850. It sounds like the DRY is the better choice as far as reliability, I just much prefer the size/shape of the Sky Ray over the DRY.

I think DRY is more reliable right now because people have used it in a more responsible way than the Sky Ray. Maybe except 2100, who's pushing to test every flashlight.

All Dry it needs a couple of persons using bad or low quality 18650's, or some guys putting + were - should.

This is after all a 3 x 18650 in series.

Ok, passing all over that, DRY seems more reliable, and I believe it is.

Me too.
