The dedomed in OP will definitely throw further. A well-formed OP reflector doesn't really decrease throw for all but the smallest emitters; for the S2+ OP reflector, even a dedomed 519A has a huge surface area relative to the surface perturbations of the reflector.
However, it is possible that you might get a lower quality reflector--the OP reflector in my T3 is highly uneven, with very aggressive OP on one side and close to smooth on the other. This impacts throw visibly on the OP half and gives a wonky beam that cannot be fixed.
The hotspot will become a bit "smeared out" and blend with the corona; the most intense part will become a bit narrower compared to a smooth reflector.
I actually find smooth reflectors to give much better beams than OP reflectors, and couldn't explain why. The tint shift around the corona is much less with the smooth reflector, while OP reflectors tend to give a purplish hotspot, yellow-green corona, and a purple spill again.
Sounds like a killer combo! If you are into extremely warm, the dedomed 2700K is simply amazing. Compared to E21A, you get much more output AND rosier tint, probably also higher R9. A smooth reflector should serve you well in both tint uniformity and throw.
Hey this light is awesome. Took it trick or treating and it has a lot of power! Took some fiddling to figure out how to put it in instant switch instead of tint ramping. Unfortunately I tore one of the rubber rings getting it out of the package.
I think I’ll order a few more of these and buy extra head straps. Can anyone recommend some other cool combos? I’ve never had a tint ramp
What setup did you end up getting? I love using my DW4 as a headlamp, I’m thinking of getting a second one with some 519a’s so I have my current one with 219b for close up stuff, and the 519a for more times I need to see farther.
I got black with red button back light with 519a 2700K dedomed on channel 1 and red on channel 2
I will say that the color temperature is a little bit higher than my E21A R9050 2000K. But the light output from two 519s is not all that much lower than 9 emitters on my K9.3!!
I’m thinking about getting one with the 8 5-watt UVs
Nice, glad it worked out for you. I’ve been tempted to get a UV Mule from Hank, but my Welltool UV light has been serving its purpose well, so haven’t felt the need yet.
Good point. Thanks! Thinking maybe some 5700k dedomed to get in that neutral ballpark.
