Nichia 519A

We hit 60.2 one day, then 2 days later… snow! As in actually making the cars furry.

Love those warm tints that make things look almost sepia.

Personally I don’t like yellow/green/pink/purple tints and prefer to look at a tint that is how I actually see stuff in the day (or how we are made to see stuff under natural light)
I know everyone sees/hears/perceives everything differently (especially how speakers sound :person_facepalming: now there’s a rabbit hole) and warmer tints are more relaxing to the eye at night.
I have a question for all, if we/you are so obsessed with the correct led tint, then do you or should you wear specific tint glasses in the day to mimic the tint you want for a light? - just something I have thought of for a loooong time. Also I think where you live, as in the kelvin in your atmosphere, the color of your eyes and age have a bearing too.

I guess what I’m saying is, I wear daytime tints, as in I have always worn serengeti glasses with their spectrol control - Photochromic - Polarization - and mineral glass that can have the tint you want.

Some info here.
And here.

What you “see”, you adapt to. If you have a light that’s overly warm, things will eventually look “normal” in time. Even a neutral light will look hideously blue. And v/v.

I use amber sunglasses

I put an amber lens on my Nichia flashlight, and aimed it at my Opple…

the results are:
the color temp became 50% warmer,
the Tint moved above the BBL, and
the Lux dropped by 50%

.

Good to know. Saves me some time.

I want to get an Emisar D4K (boost driver) with all 519a LEDs.

  • I prefer 4000K-4500K colour temp
  • I want light rosiness at all brightness levels.
  • NO green, no massive pink/redness.

There are so many combinations possible to achieve this, even after looking through this thread I still don’t really know what to order:

  • 4x 5700K DD
  • 2x 5700K DD 2x 5000K DD mix
  • 4x 4500K
  • 2x 4500K 2x 4000K mix
  • 4x 4000K

Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Thanks.

The 5700K DD will get you in the 4200-4300K range and it will be more rosy than the 219B SW45K, at least mine are.
The 4500K Domed is more neutral, just under the BBL. So not rosy, but a very nice neutral not green tint.

The Dedomed will also give you a smaller more defined hotspot where the domed has a very floody beam.

The only way to know how pink Your dedomed 5700K 519a will be, is to buy them and try them. LEDs vary (within a range). No two will be identical

I do not recommend tint mixing, as that will make the tint Extra Rosy, and you say you only want “light rosiness”

bottom line, I agree w bobvoeh and suggest the dedomed 5700K 519a. I hope you like it. The color rendering and efficiency are excellent! (regardless how rosy they turn out).

I do believe your experience, even though it is different than mine. My sw45k vary from duv -0.0078 to -0.0125, depending on the LED. I also agree the cct of dedomed 5700K 519a could be anywhere between 3800K and 4300K, depending on the individual LED, and also depending how bright the light is turned up when tested.

fwiw, there is variation between LEDs, of about duv 0.0040

here is a dedomed 5700K 519a with a duv of -0.0044 (not mine)

here is another dedomed 5700K 519a, it has an Opple duv of -0.0042 (these are mine, second from left, that is what I consider to be “slight rosyness”)

otoh, I have seen reports, by poll77, above in this thread, of dedomed 5700K 519a, with Opple duv of –0.0087, and the same person reported their sw45k had an Opple Duv of –0.0073 (iow less pink than the 519a, similar to bobvoeh’s experience)

I noticed as well that brightness affects the CCT. On my D4SV2 with 5700k DD, on low I’m getting around 4050k and at the upper levels it goes up to around 4300k. That has been my latest favorite walking light. I know its not considered a thower, but with the dedomed emitters, it throws pretty darn good especially for a hi CRI light.

fwiw, here is a Dedomed 519a 5700K with a Tint Duv of just -0.0037

note that is not Opple data, it is a much more expensive meter…

as it happens, my Opple tends to give similar results… I have never tested a Dedomed 519a myself, with Tint Duv of -0.0087, like poll77 (and some other people), have reported

either my LEDs are just different, or my Opple technique is different, not sure…

5700 DDs have quite a bit of tint variations. I have two dedomed. One is very rosy and another almost neutral. I tried the rosy one first and thought 5700 DD is too pink for my liking. Then I dedomed a second one and liked it a lot better.

thanks for your thoughts, sounds reasonable that there is tint variation… glad you ended up with one you like

I wonder if it could be related to the difference between the 519AT and 519AT-V1, along with other minor changes (lower Vf)

@jon_slider @bobvoeh

Thanks again for your advice from a month ago. I ordered the D4K with 5700K DDs and I’m quite happy with it. Here’s a beamshot:

From left to right: D4V2 SST20 3000K - D4V2 SST20 4000K FA3 bin - D4K 519A 5700K DD
All lights approx. at level 35/120

Camera settings: Colour temperature 4000K, -1 EV, tint manually adjusted slightly towards rosy to match the picture with what my eyes saw.
The rings around the spot are not visible to the naked eye.

great photo
congrats on your DD5700K, glad you like it

Glad you like your new light. Nice comparison on the beams.

Is there any place in the USA I can pick up some of the 519as in 4500k 90+ Cri?
