I have always wanted to try out the new portable mosquito repellers, so I would like to thank Nitecore for giving me the chance to test one of their latest products, the EMR40.
This product is compact in size—though not particularly lightweight—and features two operating modes: LOW for indoor use and HIGH for outdoor use.
The Nitecore EMR40 is equipped with a 7800mAh rechargeable battery offering a maximum runtime of 10 hours. The EMR40 holds an IPX5 rating for protection against dust and liquids and is impact-resistant up to 1 meter.
The EMR40 portable mosquito repeller is recommended for outdoor hiking, camping, fishing, and other outdoor activities where mosquitoes might be a concern.

The Nitecore EMR40 comes in a dark-colored box featuring its key characteristics printed on the exterior.
Inside the package, you will find: the Nitecore EMR40, a USB-C charging cable, three double-sized mats, and a multilingual manual.

I also received a box containing 30 repellent mats (MRM10 mini) in the standard size from Nitecore. Each mat provides up to 6 hours of protection. The dimensions of the Nitecore repellent mat are 35 mm x 22 mm (1.38" x 0.87").

The EMR40 features compact dimensions (61mm x 90mm x 40mm) and weighs 229g. It fits comfortably in the hand and can be carried in a pocket. A steel clip on the bottom allows for easy attachment to a backpack equipped with the MOLLE system.

The Nitecore EMR40 features four blue battery level indicators located at the bottom front, and two mode indicators positioned above the activation button: green for low mode and blue for high mode.

To turn on the mosquito repeller, locate the switch on the top, beneath the mat holder.
The plastic switch makes an audible click.
To use the device, with the power off, insert a repellent mat into the designated slot; then press the switch, release it, and press and hold the power button to activate the mosquito repellent function. This system effectively prevents accidental activation.

The protection zone will form after 10 minutes. To turn off the device, press and hold the power button.
When the mosquito repellent function is active, briefly press the power button to switch between Low and High modes. The EMR40 features a memory function; upon reactivation, it will automatically switch to the previously used mode.

The Nitecore EMR40 is rechargeable via a USB-C port located at the bottom of the unit, protected by a small plastic cover. The internal battery has a capacity of 7800mAh (28Wh max). It took me approximately 5 hours to fully charge it (at a maximum of 2A).
During charging, the indicators will gradually switch from flashing to solid, one by one, to show the status.
When the EMR40 is fully charged, all four indicators will remain lit steadily.
Note: The mosquito repellent function can also be activated while charging.

The Nitecore EMR40 is expected to reach a temperature of 165°C in “HIGH” mode, thanks to the new FCB 2.0 heating system.

The theoretical test I conducted involved comparing the device with a VAPE mosquito repellent I had at home, using an infrared temperature reader (Fluke 61).

Immagine

Nitecore guarantees that the EMR40 is capable of repelling mosquitoes within 10 minutes of being turned on. After this time, I measured the temperature of both the Nitecore device and the VAPE unit. The Nitecore EMR40 registered a temperature approximately 10°C higher than the VAPE mosquito repeller, a decidedly positive result.

The practical test was successfully conducted outdoors over two hot summer evenings.

VIDEO Unboxing and Use:

CONCLUSIONS

The Nitecore EMR40 is an essential product for anyone prone to mosquito bites who wants effective protection while outdoors, whether hunting, camping, fishing, trekking, cooking, eating, and so on.
The EMR40 is well-built, easy to use, and offers good battery life; it is also compatible with standard VAPE mats, allowing for the use of two at a time.

In conclusion, the Nitecore EMR40, along with the Nitecore NWE10 reviewed a few weeks ago, boasts interesting features that make it an ideal companion for outdoor excursions, especially in summer when one is easily bitten by annoying mosquitoes without adequate protection.
