My review of the NITECORE NU33 lightweight Headlamp - White, Red & High CRI beams - Type-C charging - Dual switch
Thanks for the review. Not sure why Nitecore have removed moonlight modes from their new headlamps.
Great review as always….really do like the quality of your videos.
This looks like a good knockaround fair weather headlamp. Interesting that they went for aluminum with the housing! I wonder how it’ll hold up to short drops that happen to land on gravel or rocks…and I wonder how those tabs will hold up on the angle adjustment (similar past models from other companies saw a lot of tabs crack or break…but I think most of those were something besides polycarbonate. A glass-filled nylon would be smart but that adds significant cost.). The dual buttons may not be so handy with gloves on or frozen fingers, and the water resistance is disappointing. Mode spacing is always weird on Nitecore headlamps, at least in terms of longer run times and things that a hiker or backpacker might need if traveling in the dark for any length of time. I keep hoping Nitecore will bring out a headlamp focused on that because I know they could, but they’ve been heading in a different direction. Nice to see the high CRI proximity emitter here. A second lower level on the red would be nice.
The non-removable battery is what really kills it for me, and only because I usually need to use this type of headlamp for longer periods than it’ll run on a charge. For their shortcomings, I still find the Black Diamond lamps to be the winners in backpacking where the light will be used for more than camp tasks and short jaunts. If Nitecore would do something BD-esque but better, with flashlight-nerd improvements, it’d be awesome.
